The Accident Details

It all started out as a weekend vacation of sorts. I was off from work on Saturday, May 22, 1999 as well as Sunday, May 23, 1999. Having a weekend off, I decided to go see some old friends of mine that I went to college with in Dallas. I left work that Friday at about 3 PM, and headed for Dallas. After getting through the Houston traffic, and picking up a friend in Corsicana, I checked into my hotel in Duncanville at about 8:30 PM. About 14 of us ended up in two hotel rooms. And you know that fourteen people partying in two hotel rooms aren't very quiet. What must have been fate, by about 2 AM we were ordered to check out of our rooms by hotel management, as well as three Duncanville police officers, which I must admit, were very good sports about it, except the hotel manger. Anyways, we decided to head back to Corsicana to the apartment complex that my best friend lived at. There was four carloads of us, and my car, now being driven by my best friend was third. And yet another interesting twist of fate I would not realize until after the accident, our friend behind us passed us shortly after getting onto I-45. They passed us going a pretty good rate of speed, and my friend, not wanting to get a ticket, decided not to catch up to them, so the tailights of my friend's 1999 Ford F-150 faded down the road. Little did we know that several miles down the road, a man traveling northbound on I-45 in a Red 1998 Firebird fell asleep at the wheel, cut across the median, hit the guardrail, and ended up in the center southbound lane of I-45 facing oncoming traffic. My friend in the Ford pickup came up on the accident after it happened, and made a full stop in the left lane of I-45. This is where I try to recall as much as possible. We were also in the left lane. The first thing we saw was the Firebird's headlight facing toward us, being distracted by the headlight, we did not notice that the Ford pickup was stopped in the left lane. And by the time we did notice, it was too late. My best friend tried to stop my Neon, but we didn't have any time. All that I remember is hearing the crash and the great sound of the airbag exploding in front of me. I literally crawled out of my car very disoriented to discover that there wasn't much left of the front end of my Neon. Since a full size Ford pickup is much higher than a Neon, we went under the truck (and when I get the pictures on my site, you will be able to see just how far back the rear end of the truck went on my Neon) and ended up pushing the full size Ford an estimated 30-40 yards. There were no major injuries in either accident. Two friends of mine who were in the back seat sleeping when the accident occured, suffered some bruises on their legs. My friend driving suffered burns on his arms, and bruised wrists as a result of the airbag. At this point, I still haven't heard from my insurance, so I don't know what the replacement for Lady will be, but I will be sure and let everyone know!
