1984 Buick Regal T-type and a 1984 Buick
Grandnational
Only 3,401 T-types were built and 2,000 Grandnationals were built
in
1984.
The 1984 buick regals were the first year that they
were fuel injected in the 3.8 liter turbocharged engines (231 CID). The
V6 engine was way ahead of its time. The engine had the latest in
electronics which are still used today and unheard of back in 1984:
Electronic Control Module (ECM)
Assembly Line Diagnostic Link (ALDL) Connector
Service Engine Soon Light
Fuel Injection (Sequential fuel injection or S.F.I.) had six
injectors
Idle Air Control (IAC) Motor
Fuel Pump Relay Transmission Converter Clutch (TCC) Connector
Computer Controlled Coil (C3I) Ignition
Electronic Spark Control (ESC) Module
Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Vacuum Solenoid
Fuel Vapor Canister Solenoid
Wastegate Control Solenoid
Exhaust Oxygen Sensor (O2)
Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)
Coolant Temperature Sensor
Camshaft Position Sensor
Crankshaft Position Sensor
Mass Air Flow (MAF)
Knock Sensor
Transmission Park/Neutral (PN) Switch
Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS)
MAP Sensor
Wouldn't you
really rather have a Buick :)
What another buick, I wish, it's what my car looked like when I bought
it. The color was plantium gold with some funky racing strips. The paint
job only lasted 1 year. Although this isn't the original color, it looked
new when I bought it (1988) since the paint was coming off I had it
painted metallic blue (lasted about 2 years in 100+ degrees in the
sun), then
that paint oxidized, so I had it painted sky blue on top, metallic blue on
the sides and silver on the bottom. You might think I'm nuts painting my
car so many times (A total of 7 times in 9 years) but I've only paid for 3
of the 7 paint jobs because other people don't watch where they are
driving.
