Beer

Guiness Stout

Just had to put this in. This is one of my all-time favorite mass-marketed beers. Even with all of the delicious micro-brews on the market today, I still think that you can't go wrong with a Guiness(on tap, of course). There may be better beers out there, but Guiness will always taste great.

La Fin Du Monde

This beer, brewed in the traditional Belgian Trippel style in Canada(you know, the land of Molson Ice), was out of this world. I read about it in a magazine and decided to go and see if I could find it at the new beer store that opened up by my apartmend. Well, not only did they have this beer, they had about 50 other Belgian beers that were actually brewed in Belgium and to top it all off, you can smoke your cigar in the store while you are choosing your beers. Needless to say, I have been back a few times to this place. It's expensive, but most things in Manhattan are. Back to the beer. It had a definite yeasty taste to it, as all Dubbels and Trippels will because they add yeast to the beer for secondary(in a Dubbel) and even a third fermentation(a Trippel). It also had intense citrus notes. I actually think that this beer is better than the Affilgem Trippel, one of the best Trappist ales on available today. They both taste great and they aren't totally overwhelming for the beginer to enjoy. Very highly recomended if you can get it.

Affilgem Trippel

Another great Trippel. Tasted similiar to the La Fin Du Monde, but in my opinion somewhat less assertive. Not that this was by any means a bland beer, far from it. It also had very tasty citrus notes and a great aroma, they were just a little restrained. Very highly recommended.
