NAVAJO RUGS

Of all the Native American crafts, the rug is fast becoming the most difficult item to add to your collection. For the art of rug weaving is almost a lost art. Like other young people in our country, Native American youth would rather play with their computers or compete in sports and everything else young kids enjoy doing today. Weaving a traditional rug can be very time consuming and take as long as 4 to 5 months to complete. Here are a few samples of Navajo rugs.

The above rug measures approximately 7 1/2 X 3 3/4 feet. It is believed it was woven in between 1890 and 1900. Its value is placed at $9500.

The above rug measures approximately 17 X 21 inches and its value is placed at $600.
