As a rule, I enjoy to read historical fiction, biographies and autobiographies, although I do read many other types of books as well.
Lately I have been on a reading binge! I've read quite a few good series including: Tempest Brennan series by Kathy Reichs; The Left Behind series by Jerry B. Jenkins and Tim F. LaHaye; Harry Potter (an absolute must read in my humble opinion) by J.K. Rowling; Eve Dallas series by J.D. Robb; Harry Bosch Detective series by Michael Connelly. I have gobbled up a series by Colleen McCullough about the Roman Empire. I highly recommend the whole series, which include: The First Man In Rome, The Grass Crown, Fortune's Favourites and Caesar's Women and finally, Caesar. Each book has proved as good as the previous. I'm anxiously awaiting the publication of the 6th book in the series!.
Another Historical Fiction work, which I absolutely could not put down, is written by Margaret George, and entitled The Memoirs of Cleopatra. The novel covers the same characters and incidents as McCullough's Rome series, and I found it interesting to see where the authors' theories complimented each other, and where they differed. George has also penned The Autobiography of Henry VIII : With Notes by His Fool, Will Somers : A Novel and Mary Queen of Scotland and the Isles : A Novel
It appears that Colleen McCullough has veered off of the Rome course and changed tracks. Her most recent novel is about Captain John Morgan (of the famous rum) entitled Morgan's Run. It is a very well researched book, and a definite lead-in to a new series. I look forward to whatever work she creates next.
I have read some really incredible books over the years. The above lists are definitely some of them, but not all. Another honourable mention must be I Know This Much Is True, a phenomenal novel by Wally Lamb.
Although not a series, I have a few authors whose works I enjoy. A few of which are: Maeve Binchy; David Baldacci; Jeffrey Archer; and Stephen King.
Another book that I have come across in my reading frenzy of late is A Suitable Boy by Vikram Seth. Both A Suitable Boy and A City Of Joy are set in India. I've learned so much about Indian culture and history from these books.
I lied, I am also a
big fan of Canadian Literature
