Lutefisk Chef
He has served as Chef of the Zion event for more than 40 years. The supper continues to draw approximately 450 diners every year—many from Grand Rapids but from as far north as Bigfork, from Hibbing to the east, and west to Bemidji. Zion Lutheran has served more than 20,000 pounds of fish in the 55 years of the event.
Darrel is the Lutefisk Meister and he and his wife, Marion, are among Zion’s finest lefse rollers and bakers -- every sheet being symmetrically round with just the right texture and thinness. Each year some 1,200 “rounds” of lefse are prepared for the dinner. Meatballs and other scandanavian delights are also served.

He is an outstanding chef who really knows his lutefisk. He treats it with lovin' care and as the fish is being served he constantly seeks feedback from customers during the course of the dinner. He regularly attends other lutefisk dinners in the area and confers with other chefs on their cooking methods, tips, etc. He goes the 'extra mile' to deliver the best possible lutefisk quality.
Zion Lutheran Lutefisk Supper is held the third Saturday in October, from 1:00 to 6:00 pm. The same day the Zion churchwomen hold a Scandanavian Bake Sale with Holiday Gift Baskets also for sale. Yes, you can buy lefse, too.
Zion Lutheran Church is in Grand Rapids on Highway 169 South, across from Home Depot.
