Maypole Cake

This cake was made for a dessert revel at the SCA event "Terpsichore at the Tower II".

It was a spice cake iced with tinted ready-made cream cheese icing, and decorated with buttercream drop flowers.

The maypole was made by attaching ribbons to a wooden dowel topped with a small wood candle cup. Ribbons were woven exactly as in a full sized maypole, and after placing it on the cake each was tacked to the edge of the cake with icing, excess ribbon was trimmed off and the end topped with a flower.
