After the battle of Bunker Hill (1775) a militia regiment was formed in NH - The following Rochester men were in this regiment. This regiment was the third to be raised in the NH colony, the previous two were already in Boston and became part of the Continental Army. In that the same year the town of Portsmouth was expected to be attacked by the British and the following Rochester men volunteered and marched to Portsmouth. The expected attack never came and the men were sent south to aid in the siege of Boston.
