She stared at the computer screen without really seeing it! The book was finished at last! What had started out to be an insiders view of pro wrestling ended up a steamy, sexy romance novel! Reaching out, she hit the print button, bringing closure to this particular project. In the morning she would deliver the manuscript to Mack. Then it would be up to him! While the pages printed, Kasi got up and wandered off in the general direction of her kitchen. Taking a glass down from the cabinet, she opened the fridge and poured some juice. Going back into the living room, Kasi sat down in the recliner, picked up the remote and clicked on the t.v. She flipped through the stations searching for something to watch. Wrestling was on! Stopping to watch, Kasi was surprised to see the familiar face of Brian! LORD, he looked good! Her eyes devoured the sight of him! She was overcome with such a fierce longing to be with him, it was nearly unbearable! The memory of nights shared in passion came rushing back! Kasi had tried to keep those memories pushed away! She tried not to let them surface! Brian stood on the ropes, arms raised, smiling that smile! Then he turned, jumping down in the ring and began doing his thang! Kasi's heart skipped a beat, as she thought about how those arms felt around her! How his kisses tasted, how that big body felt next to hers! Groaning loudly, she leaned forward, burying her face in her hands, totally miserable. Finally, she leaned back, watching the match with tears in her eyes, wondering if he ever thought of her, wondering if he had forgiven her or if he was still angry! The match was a good one, and as expected, Brian won! But instead of leaving the ring, he asked for the microphone, as he stood in the center of the ring! She watched, barely breathing, as he paced back and forth, thinking about what he had to say! Rubbing a hand over his, Brian finally stopped his pacing, standing in the very center of the ring. "A few weeks ago, I did a dumb thing! Over the years, I have made some stupid mistakes! But none as stupid as the one I made then! I walked away from someone very special!" Brian paused to swallow passed the lump in his throat, head bowed. When he lifted his head, Brian looked straight at the camera. "To that very special lady, I want to say this! If you are watching this," Brian dropped down on one knee. "Kasi, please forgive me! I was wrong! If you are watching this, then call me! Please! I love you!" The sincerity, the honest emotion was too easy to see in his beautiful blue eyes. The crowd was going nuts! Everyone there, was on their feet and cheering! Tears ran down her face! "Kasi, if you're watching this, please! Call me!" Then Brian threw down the microphone and left the ring. Kasi didn't know what to do! Her hands trembled visibly. She needed a drink! But something a little stronger than juice, yet juice was all she WOULD drink! Uncertain, Kasi knew what she HAD to do, even as she picked up the phone. After punching in the numbers, she listened to it ringing. Finally, on the forth ring it was answered. "Kasi? Please let this be you!" That husky voice pleaded softly. "Yes, Brian! It's me!" It took a minute for her to speak passed the lump in her throat. "I want to see you! Can I come?" The hushed, husky voice sent tingles all along her nerves. Brian had the cell phone in a death grip, barely daring to breathe, as he waited for her answer. Lifting tear-filled eyes toward the ceiling, she whispered her reply. "Yes, I'd like that!!" Brian grinned in relief, suddenly MUCH lighter of heart. "Great! We need to talk!" "Yes, we do!" She whispered. Her voice sent ripples of desire racing through his huge body. "Kasi, I meant every word I said tonight. I love you! I think I have for a long time now, ever since that night of the tornado, but tried to deny it!" That gravelly tone that she knew so well was there, causing her breath to catch. "I'll call you tomorrow, if that's ok!" He said softly. He had heard that little catch, and was pretty sure he knew what she was thinking. "Sure! Ok! I'll be expecting to hear from you then!" She too, was gripping the receiver. Moments later, they hung up! Brian sat there a moment, the decision finally made, then began throwing his stuff in his bag. He had the next ten days off, and if he hurried, he could be at her house around 2a.m. Maybe they could work things out by the time he ad to go back out on the road. Within half an hour, Brian had checked out, gassed up and was on his way to Tennessee! He had a good five hour drive ahead of him, but he didn't care! Maybe, at this late hour traffic would be light enough so he could make it in less time. Smiling broadly, Brian rolled down the window, and cranked up the radio. He was soon eating up the miles separating him from the woman he loved. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Kasi sat there...stunned by all that had transpired. Brian WAS coming to see her! She stared at the telephone almost expecting it to ring again! Smiling to herself, she had something to tell him! That secret knowledge calmed her frayed nerves! She would soon have someone all her own to love! Kasi turned off the t.v. then went into the bathroom. A nice long bubble bath was just what the doctor ordered! As she filled the tub with hot water, Kasi added some of her favorite bath oil. Within minutes, she stripped of her clothes and lowered her tired body into the fragrant, steaming water. A contented sigh escaped her soft lips. Leaning her head back against the tub, Kasi let the soothing magic of the hot water soak away her aches. She stayed that way until she began to prune. Brian had made good time, once he got on the interstate, and was soon pulling into her drive. Glancing at his watch, he saw it was just after 1:30. Grinning wickedly, he quietly closed the door of his SUV so as not to awaken the sleeping woman inside. The duplex was dark and quiet at this hour. As he knocked on the door, Brian couldn't help but wonder what her reaction would be. Kasi was startled awake, by a knock at her door! Rolling out of bed, she pulled the curtain aside, peeking out to see who it could be. With a gasp of surprise, she hurried around the foot of her bed, stubbing her toe in the process! Muttering a string of curses under her breath, Kasi hobbled to the door. Brian was delighted when the door was jerked open by a very beautiful woman holding her foot! He tried in vain, to hide his amusement when he realized she was cursing her bed! "Come on in! That damn worm eaten piece of shit has GOT to go!" She muttered grumpily, hopping out of the way, still holding her abused foot. "AHMM! You ok?" Brian was trying HARD not to grin! Giving him an irritated look, Kasi closed the door behind him! "Yes! I stubbed my toe! Think I broke the damn thing! It's good to see you Brian! I hadn't expected to see you so soon, but I'm glad you're here!" She said softly, looking up at him with loving eyes. Unable to resist the unspoken invitation, Brian pulled her to him and kissed her. The kiss quickly became passionate, as they clung to each other. Kasi broke the embrace rather reluctantly. Her flushed cheeks and ragged breathing bespoke the depths of her emotions. Putting a little distance between them, Kasi turned to face Brian. "Are you hungry? Can I fix you something to eat?" Her soft voice was like velvet to his ears. "Cup of coffee would be nice!" His soft drawl was like music to her ears. She had missed him terribly! "Sure thing! Come on and keep me company!" She said as she led him into her kitchen. After she started the coffee, Kasi turned to find Brian standing directly behind her. Taking her hand, he pulled her back into his arms, enjoying the feel of her against him. Holding her close, he breathed in a sigh of relief. This felt right! This was the way it was suppose to be! Brian ran his hand up and down her back, caressing her! "OH, Brian! I'm so sorry!" Kasi groaned softly, miserably, burying her face against his thick chest. Laughing softly, he tilted her head back so he could look into her eyes. "There's nothing to be sorry about! You were doing your job! And THAT'S something my cousin had to point out to me! That and the fact he just wanted to yank my chain!" Brian said, grinning that beautiful grin of his! Kasi searched his eyes to see if he meant it or if he was just paying lip service. But he was serious! His eyes met hers openly and honestly! Tears filled her eyes, tears of relief and happiness, that he had truly forgiven her! Wrapping her arms tightly around him, she couldn't prevent the flood of tears that soon had his shirt front damp! "Hush now! There's no need for all this! Hush now, Babe!" His soft drawl, and his arms around her, were soothing... giving comfort now, as well as pleasure. Finally she pulled back, wiping her cheeks with the back of her hand. Turning away, she poured them a cup of coffee. "Brian, sit down! We need to talk!" Her soft voice and misty eyes touched him. The big man looked at her curiously, taking the cup from her, and sat down at her table. He waited for her to tell him what was on her mind. Kasi sat down next to him. Nervously she fidgeted about, not knowing exactly HOW to begin! Brian sipped his coffee, giving her time to gather herself together. Whatever was on her mind, was serious! His gentle gaze never left her face! "Brian, I've got something to tell you! I'm going to have a baby!" She said meeting his eyes, wondering what he was thinking. Wide-eyed surprise was his only reaction, as he sat down his cup, staring in astonishment at her. Finally, he broke out in a delighted grin! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Chapter 8!~ "A BABY!" Brian couldn't have been more surprised! "Are you sure?" Brian dropped his eyes to the cup in front of him. Taking a sip of the hot coffee, he thought about the bomb she had just dropped on him! He didn't know what to say or think! A BABY! Brian's eyes met hers over the rim of his cup. He read apprehension, nervousness, and a quiet strength of purpose. And LOVE! He read love there, as well! Setting his cup back down, Brian reached across the short distance and took her hand. "Don't worry, I'll be there for you!" The tender look, the gruff voice, calmed most of her fears! She had been worried about what his reaction was going to be! Tears filled her eyes! Tears of relief! Seeing this Brian moved his chair back, and pulled her over to sit on his lap. She buried her face in the curve of his neck, giving free reign to her tears. Brian murmured softly to her. His hands caressing her, further calming her. Kasi finally turned her damp face up to his. Her soft mouth sought out and found his. Her kiss was hungry...passionate...demanding! She wanted him! She wanted him NOW! Pulling away, she quickly got to her feet. Standing before him, she told him what was in her heart! "I love you, Brian! I always have! No matter what, I'm going to have this baby! I pray this works for us, but I didn't tell you to try and trap you into making a commitment, but because it was the right thing to do! I want you!" She finished softly. Her velvety voice worked on his senses! His blue eyes ran hotly over her body! Very slowly, Brian removed his clothing, never taking his eyes off hers. He stood up, removing his tight black jeans. And he was ready! Kasi stepped closer, dropping her simple cotton gown to the floor as she did. With eyes nearly black with desire, her arms slid up around his neck, pulling his head down to her. Her lips found his, as his arms wrapped around her slim body, pulling her tightly to him. Brian wanted more! He lifted her effortlessly off her feet. His lips moved sensuously over hers, then moved across her check, then down her neck. Kasi had wrapped her silky legs around his hips, wanting more of him! Her hands ran over the broad expanse of his shoulders. Reaching behind her, feeling for the table, Brian knocked their cups to the floor, clearing the table, then set her down on it. Gently pushing her back till she was laying on the table, Brian feasted on her beauty. His hands and mouth touched her everywhere, Slowly, his mouth traced a path down her trembling body! When he got to THAT place, she cried out his name as wave after wave of pleasure washed over her! Brian stayed with her till the sensations began to ebb away! Only then did he straighten up. Kasi was gasping for breath, her eyes closed, her cheeks flushed. As her heartbeat slowed, only then did she open her eyes to look at him. Brian slowly, very slowly, buried himself in her willing softness! It was full daylight before they sought out the comfort of her bed! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Brian came awake reluctantly. Sounds and smells drifted in from the kitchen, slowly penetrating through his sleep, bringing him gradually awake. Sitting up in the big bed, he rubbed the sleep from his eyes, then ran a hand through his tangled hair. He had been exhausted, what with the 5 hour drive to get here, not to mention all those nights of almost NO sleep after he sent her away,then what followed between them. He grinned as THAT particular memory returned. Giving in to a jaw-cracking yawn, Brian got up, pulled on his jeans, then went in search of Kasi. He found her making breakfast. "Morning, Babe!" His voice muffled against the side of her neck, his big arms going around her, pulling her back against him. A satisfied smile curved her lips, as she leaned back against his huge body! "Afternoon is more like it! Did you sleep well? Are you hungry?" She asked, turning in his embrace! Her soft look and softer lips were an invitation he couldn't resist. Brian lowered his head to hers, covering her mouth with his. His hands slid down over her backside, pulling her even tighter against him, leaving little doubt as to what he wanted. He was hungry but not for food! With grim determination, he pulled her with him down to the floor. "GOOD LORD! On the kitchen floor, Brian?" Kasi laughed even as she allowed herself to be pulled down by the big man. Reaching out toward her range, she fumbled around feeling for the knob to turn off the burner. Grinning that smart-assed grin of his, Brian supported his greater weight as he covered her body with his own. Finally he lowered his mouth to hers, this time the kiss was full of warmth...longing...and most of all passion. Kasi moved her body slightly to better accommidate his much larger one. She welcomed his touch, came alive under it, reveled in it. Brian was all she ever wanted! She prayed this baby took after him, had his eyes, and glorious hair! Moaning softly, she raised her hips as he tore away her underwear. She was ready for him! He could see the love shining in her eyes as she looked up into his, as he joined his body with hers. It was much later when they finally got around to eating the cold breakfast. That night, while sitting in her favorite restaurant, Brian asked her the question that was upper-most in his mind. "Kasi, will you move in with me?" He waited, chewing his steak, wondering what her answer would be. Her eyes widened in surprise. She hadn't expected this! "Move in with you? Brian... I... I don't know!" She stammered, not knowing what to say. She laid her fork down, and nervously twisted her napkin. His eyes never left hers, he was disappointed, though he didn't show it! He watched as she regained her composure. "Brian, I don't know what to say! I hadn't expected this!" Kasi looked at him, uncertain as to what to say! "I was hoping you'd say yes!" He drawled. Lifting his glass, he took a sip of the iced tea, suddenly not very hungry any more. Dropping her eyes to the plate in front of her, she took a sip of her tea, thinking about what he said for all of ten seconds. "Brian, I love you, and will take you anyway I can have you! We don't have to live together. I don't want you to feel obligated. But if that's what you REALLY want to do, then YES! I'll move in with you, but only if that's what YOU really WANT! Not out of some sense of obligation to take care of me! I don't want to do this just because I'm pregnant! I want you to REALLY think about it for a few days, then ask me again!" Kasi's insecurity was showing. Brian's relief was overwhelming. He had been afraid she no longer cared! The heated gaze he sent her, made her gasp. Suddenly neither of them were hungry for food. So when he suggested they leave, she was more than willing to go! As he tossed some money on the table to pay for their mostly untouched food, she reached out taking his hand in hers. They very quickly left the restaurant. Brain held the door of her car for her, then climbed in under the wheel. Turning the Ford toward the interstate, they were soon headed home. Kasi told him to take exit 93. As they left the interstate, she gave him directions on how to reach her house, by taking the backroads. "DAMN! It's DARK out here in the boonies!" Brian grumbled softly, cursing as yet another deer darted out in front of them. With all his attention centered on the road, it took a minute for him to realize just what she was doing after she released her seatbelt. Surprise kept him quiet, as he slumped down slightly, to allow her easier access to the buttons on his jeans. When she had him free, Kasi loved him till he became worried of running them off the road. At that point, he pulled off on the side of the dark, country road. Moaning loudly, Brian LOVED what she was doing to him, and was EXTREMELY close to losing all control. GAWD ALMIGHTY, what she was doing with her teeth and her tongue! His eyes rolled back in much the same way Taker's did! Unable to stand it any longer, he let go, after she had resisted all his attempts to push her away. Kasi didn't stop until he was gasping for breath and trembling weakly. Resettling herself, she looked over at him primly. Surprise and absolute satisfaction was clearly visible in his amazed blue eyes. Her look was one of total innocence. "I hope you didn't mind! But that was something I wanted to do!" Her soft voice and innocent look ignited the flames of desire again. "MIND? Hell, I LOVED it! How much further to your house?" His gruff voice and hot eyes had her pulse racing and she couldn't wait for them to get home. Within minutes, they were pulling into her driveway. Brian hadn't bothered to re-button his jeans, merely hitched them up a little higher as he got out of her car. After opening her door, he helped her out of the car, threw her across his shoulder, and sprinted up the steps to her front door. Once inside, he carried her to her bedroom, tossing her down on the bed. Seconds later, they were both naked and in each others arms. They loved till just before dawn, finally giving in to the need for sleep. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Chapter 9!~ The morning dawned hot and humid! Just another west Tennessee late summer day! The central unit had been working over-time lately! The forecast called for a 90% chance of thunderstorms later in the day and Kasi hoped this time they were right! She had been up since about 4:00 A.M. unable to sleep. Kasi had quietly left Brian sleeping soundly and had gone to stand in the enclosed back yard! She had built a privacy fence around the patio, right out her back door. She attempted to catch what ever breeze might be stirring, as she stood in the middle of the huge yard. Even with the air on inside, Kasi was troubled by the heat! Sighing heartily, she suspected her pregnancy was the reason behind her discomfort. Walking over to the wicker rocker, she sat down and pulled her long hair up off her neck. Beads of sweat ran down between her shoulder blades and down the valley between her breasts. The wind picked up somewhat, blowing a few leaves and dust devils across the brick. She was still out there a short time later, when the sun began turning the sky a beautiful rosy hue. Sitting there, enjoying the early morning, Kasi happened to glance around and saw Brian standing in the doorway, watching her, wearing nothing but a gentle smile! Smiling back, Kasi got up and went to him. Slipping her arms around his waist, she planted a soft kiss in the center of his massive chest. "Morning!" She murmured against his chest. Her lips traced a fiery path across the broad expanse. Brian gasped as she bit then gently sucked on his sensitive nipples. Growling deep inside that same chest, Brian grabbed her up, and carried her back to bed. He kicked the kitchen door closed behind him. It would be several hours later before they would emerge from her bedroom again. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Kasi, I have something to do! I'll be back in a couple of hours!" Brian said as he tucked his t-shirt in to his tight jeans. "That's ok, I have an errand I need to take care of, anyway! What would you like for dinner? Steaks and salads ok?" She asked, pulling on a pair of denim shorts and a cotton tee. "Yeah, that sounds good! Need anything while I'm gone?" He asked, buttoning up his jeans as his eyes caressed her. "Only for you to hurry back!" She said softly as she slipped her arms around him. She knew without a doubt, that she loved this man above all others! Gazing down into her gentle eyes, Brian had to swallow passed the lump in his throat. The love he saw in this woman's eyes, touched him in ways no one else ever had. His heart skipped a beat then began to race away. Brian lowered his head, till his lips covered hers, in a kiss that was both tender and filled with the promise of more to come. "I won't be long! I promise!" Brian said huskily as he reluctantly pulled away. His baby blues looked dark and stormy with desire as he stepped back. Kasi stood in the doorway and watched as he backed out of her driveway and headed in to town. Waving one last time, she went back in the house, and got ready to leave too. She had a meeting with Mack in thirty minutes and was dreading it. The meeting with Mack would be a hard one, at best. After being shown in to his private office, she got right to the business at hand. "Mack...you've been very important to me, both in my personal life and in my career. But I'm in love with Brian, and I'm going to have his baby." Glancing nervously at the man seated across from her, she saw a look of angry resignation on his familiar face. "I thought as much! Have you told him yet?" He asked quietly, wishing it were him rather than Lee. "Yes I have! Mack, please be happy for me!" She softly pleaded for understanding. "I was afraid of this! I do want you to be happy, but I had hoped it would be with me, not another man!" He replied bitterly. Resentment, and hurt were clearly visible in his eyes. "I know! Mack, this wasn't planned." She said quietly, finally meeting his eyes. "Kasi...I think you know how I feel! I love you and always have! If you ever need me, I'm here! He just better treat you right!" Mack got up and walked her to the door, wanting this meeting to end! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Brian beat her back to the house by a few minutes. He had gone to a jewelry store they had driven past the other night, and bought her a diamond necklace. He planned to give it to her tonight after dinner. Brian had the extra key to her door and let himself in. He had taken the steaks out and was getting them ready to put on the grill, when Kasi arrived. When she walked in, he took one look at her and knew the meeting with her publisher had not been easy. She had told him about their relationship, along with her suspicions that Mack was in love with her. "How'd it go?" He asked, pulling her into his arms. "Bout as well as I expected!" She said, more tired than she could ever remember being. "How do you like your steak? Tonight, I'll cook!" Brian felt sorry for the unknown man. She was truly a woman worth loving! "You go take a nap. I'll call you when dinner's ready!" He said softly. He watched as she went into her bedroom. The slight droop of her shoulders spoke volumes as to the extent of her exhaustion. Physical or emotional, would be hard to say which it was. Shaking his head slightly, Brian turned back to the task at hand. Kasi came awake abruptly! She quickly scrambled out of bed and just DID make it to the bathroom before the nausea erupted. This was the worst! Brian found her there, head hanging over the toilet, dry-heaving. Taking a wash cloth from the neatly folded stack on the shelf, he soaked it in cold water, then laid it across the back of her neck. He wet another , handing it to her as she weakly stood up. "How long you been there?" She asked, taking the cool rag, mortified by him seeing her being sick! "Just came in! You ok?" He asked, leaning against her dryer. She was white as a sheet and had dark smudges under her eyes. "I'll survive! Thought this was suppose to happen in the mornings?" She grumbled hoarsely. She took her toothbrush down, squeezed out some paste, and brushed her teeth vigorously. Afterwards, she rinsed out her mouth with mouth wash. Her coloring was gradually returning to normal. "Come on, Babe! I'll get you something to drink!" Brian said solicitously, hugging her briefly. She let him lead her into the kitchen, where she took a seat at the table. Seeing the food on the table, she hastily averted her eyes, then turned sideways, away from the food. The delectable smells of steak and hot buttered potatoes and baked beans, filled her nostrils, even as her stomach heaved once more. Brian had his back to her, filling a glass with ice for tea. Hearing her agonized moan,then running away, he looked around wondering what was wrong. It dawned on him, that she was back in the bathroom, throwing up again. He sat the iced tea down, took a sprite out of the fridge, and got a sleeve of crackers down from the cabinet. Brian went back in to see about her. The sour smell met him before he got to the bathroom door. She hadn't made it in time, and was down on her knees trying to clean up the mess. Sitting the stuff down on the night stand, Brian pulled her to her feet and carried her back to the bed. "You lay there and rest. Eat a few crackers and take a few sips of the sprite when you feel better. I'll clean up, but you stay put till this passes!" His compassion was touching! The sympathy he felt for her misery could be seen in his eyes as he knelt down beside her. Kasi's surprise that he knew what to do to ease her plight, was obvious. She could only stare wide-eyed, at him as he pushed back a stray lock of hair. His gentleness brought tears to her eyes. She watched as he went back to the bathroom and cleaned up in there, and was still watching as he came back to her side several minutes later. The sounds of the washer filling, drifted out to them. "Thank you! I feel better already!" She whispered softly, her eyes glittering brilliantly. Leaning forward, Brian kissed her gently on the cheek. "I'm glad!" Was all he said. The tender look in his eyes, spoke volumes. They stayed that way, talking quietly till the nausea passed. She nibbled on a cracker and sipped some of the soda, before attempting to get back up. Even then, Kasi avoided the kitchen for a short time, till she was fairly certain she wouldn't be sick again. Only then did the couple go in to eat dinner. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The time flew by and before he knew it, Brian had to go back on the road. He tried his best to talk Kasi into going with him, but she adamently refused. "I can't right now. I have a doctor's appointment next week, and I'll need to stay in touch with Mack for the next month or so. There will be things to do concerning the book... Brian, I have a copy of the manuscript. I want you to read it." She watched him, curious as to his reaction. This was a work Kasi was proud of, and hoped he would like it. Brian felt a moments disappointment, then reluctance as he thought about the source of their separation. Seeing the hopeful look in her eyes, he knew he'd read the damn thing! He wouldn't do anything to take away that look. "OK! I'll read it when I come back. Have you thought any more about moving in with me?" He asked as he finished packing. He looked at her, waiting for her answer. "I'd love to, but don't think now would be the right time to do it. I need to get some stuff out of the way here first. Then we'll do it!" Kasi saw the disappointment in his eyes, even as she slipped her arms around him. She laid her head against his chest, drawing comfort from him. His arms went around her, pulling her closer. "Good enough! I'll be back in ten days! But for now, I really do need to go! I have to stop by the school and check on some stuff there before going on to Atlanta." Brian kissed her then pulled away reluctantly. He wished she were going with him. She went out to the truck with him as he stowed his gear in the back. When he walked back over to her, he leaned down kissing her rather passionately. "I'll call you tonight! I love you!" He said huskily, as he gazed deep into her eyes. "Good! I'd like that! I love you too! I'm gonna be counting the minutes till you come back to me!" Tears glittered in her eyes. She wished she were going with him. As she watched him back out and drive away, Kasi knew her heart was going with him. Brian was just outside of the Nashville city limits when his cell phone rang. "Hello!" He said, keeping his eyes on the heavy traffic all around him. "Is this Mr. Lee?" The deputy asked. "Yes! Who is this?" Brian asked, wondering who this man was, and how he had gotten Brian's number. "This is Deputy Samuals with the Madison County Sheriff's Department. There's been an accident. Do you know a lady by the name of Kasi Richards?" The voice asked. "Yes, is she alright?" Brian asked, feeling sick to his stomach for some unknown reason. "Ms. Richards was hit by a drunk driver while on her way in to town. She's been taken to General Hospital. It doesn't look good!" The voice informed him. "I'll be there in a couple of hours!" Brain managed to say, even as he looked for a turn around heading back in the direction he had just come. Any thing else the deputy may have said was lost as Brian cut the connection. Kasi lay there on the bed hurting more than she thought possible to and still be drawing breath. Slowly she opened first one eye and then the other. She knew without being told, that she had lost the baby. Tears filled her eyes, and slid down her face, as she looked toward the window. She wished Brian were here to make it stop hurting. "Can I get you anything?" He asked softly from the dark corner. He unfolded his long body from the chair, when he saw she was awake. The doctor told him that it had been a near thing, with her, and they were afraid she might slip away as well. Brian had gazed down at her heavily sedated form, and knew such despair it hurt. She HAD lost the baby, but at least she was still alive. The driver that had plowed into her, had a record for driving drunk. The deputy that had called him, was waiting at the hospital when he got there, and had filled him in on the accident. Lord help the guy if Lee got his hands on him! "How long have you been here?" She asked hoarsely. Her eyes had purple smudges under them. "All afternoon! You had just been brought to the room, when I got here!" He sat down beside her, gingerly, as he took her hand in his. "Brian, I'm sorry about the baby!" She swallowed hard, trying to hold back the tears. Brian took her in his arms, holding her as she grieved for their lost child. Tears filled his eyes as well. He crooned to her, murmuring what words of comfort he could think of, even as tears streamed down his own face. "Hush now. I'm here, and I don't intend to leave any time soon either!" Brian"s husky voice was soothing to her, giving her comfort even as her heart was breaking for the loss of her little girl. Brian had been surprised to learn the sex of the baby. He intended to take her away with him when she felt better. They would have others, as many as she wanted. He ran his hand caressingly up and down her back. He would pay the guy that did this a visit in the morning. The look on Brian's face would have frightened any one that happened to see it. The anger in his heart was murderous in it's intensity. ~Chapter 7!~
Kasi leaned back in the chair, and sighed feelingly! She stared at the computer screen without really seeing it! The book was finished at last! What had started out to be an insiders view of pro wrestling ended up a steamy, sexy romance novel! Reaching out, she hit the print button, bringing closure to this particular project. In the morning she would deliver the manuscript to Mack. Then it would be up to him!
While the pages printed, Kasi got up and wandered off in the general direction of her kitchen. Taking a glass down from the cabinet, she opened the fridge and poured some juice. Going back into the living room, Kasi sat down in the recliner, picked up the remote and clicked on the t.v. She flipped through the stations searching for something to watch. Wrestling was on!
Stopping to watch, Kasi was surprised to see the familiar face of Brian! LORD, he looked good! Her eyes devoured the sight of him! She was overcome with such a fierce longing to be with him, it was nearly unbearable! The memory of nights shared in passion came rushing back! Kasi had tried to keep those memories pushed away! She tried not to let them surface!
Brian stood on the ropes, arms raised, smiling that smile! Then he turned, jumping down in the ring and began doing his thang! Kasi's heart skipped a beat, as she thought about how those arms felt around her! How his kisses tasted, how that big body felt next to hers!
Groaning loudly, she leaned forward, burying her face in her hands, totally miserable. Finally, she leaned back, watching the match with tears in her eyes, wondering if he ever thought of her, wondering if he had forgiven her or if he was still angry!
The match was a good one, and as expected, Brian won! But instead of leaving the ring, he asked for the microphone, as he stood in the center of the ring!
She watched, barely breathing, as he paced back and forth, thinking about what he had to say! Rubbing a hand over his, Brian finally stopped his pacing, standing in the very center of the ring.
"A few weeks ago, I did a dumb thing! Over the years, I have made some stupid mistakes! But none as stupid as the one I made then! I walked away from someone very special!" Brian paused to swallow passed the lump in his throat, head bowed. When he lifted his head, Brian looked straight at the camera. "To that very special lady, I want to say this! If you are watching this," Brian dropped down on one knee. "Kasi, please forgive me! I was wrong! If you are watching this, then call me! Please! I love you!"
The sincerity, the honest emotion was too easy to see in his beautiful blue eyes. The crowd was going nuts! Everyone there, was on their feet and cheering! Tears ran down her face!
"Kasi, if you're watching this, please! Call me!" Then Brian threw down the microphone and left the ring.
Kasi didn't know what to do! Her hands trembled visibly. She needed a drink! But something a little stronger than juice, yet juice was all she WOULD drink! Uncertain, Kasi knew what she HAD to do, even as she picked up the phone. After punching in the numbers, she listened to it ringing. Finally, on the forth ring it was answered.
"Kasi? Please let this be you!" That husky voice pleaded softly.
"Yes, Brian! It's me!" It took a minute for her to speak passed the lump in her throat.
"I want to see you! Can I come?" The hushed, husky voice sent tingles all along her nerves. Brian had the cell phone in a death grip, barely daring to breathe, as he waited for her answer.
Lifting tear-filled eyes toward the ceiling, she whispered her reply. "Yes, I'd like that!!"
Brian grinned in relief, suddenly MUCH lighter of heart. "Great! We need to talk!"
"Yes, we do!" She whispered. Her voice sent ripples of desire racing through his huge body.
"Kasi, I meant every word I said tonight. I love you! I think I have for a long time now, ever since that night of the tornado, but tried to deny it!" That gravelly tone that she knew so well was there, causing her breath to catch. "I'll call you tomorrow, if that's ok!" He said softly. He had heard that little catch, and was pretty sure he knew what she was thinking.
"Sure! Ok! I'll be expecting to hear from you then!" She too, was gripping the receiver. Moments later, they hung up!
Brian sat there a moment, the decision finally made, then began throwing his stuff in his bag. He had the next ten days off, and if he hurried, he could be at her house around 2a.m. Maybe they could work things out by the time he ad to go back out on the road.
Within half an hour, Brian had checked out, gassed up and was on his way to Tennessee! He had a good five hour drive ahead of him, but he didn't care! Maybe, at this late hour traffic would be light enough so he could make it in less time. Smiling broadly, Brian rolled down the window, and cranked up the radio. He was soon eating up the miles separating him from the woman he loved.
Kasi sat there...stunned by all that had transpired. Brian WAS coming to see her! She stared at the telephone almost expecting it to ring again! Smiling to herself, she had something to tell him! That secret knowledge calmed her frayed nerves! She would soon have someone all her own to love!
Kasi turned off the t.v. then went into the bathroom. A nice long bubble bath was just what the doctor ordered! As she filled the tub with hot water, Kasi added some of her favorite bath oil. Within minutes, she stripped of her clothes and lowered her tired body into the fragrant, steaming water.
A contented sigh escaped her soft lips. Leaning her head back against the tub, Kasi let the soothing magic of the hot water soak away her aches. She stayed that way until she began to prune.
Brian had made good time, once he got on the interstate, and was soon pulling into her drive. Glancing at his watch, he saw it was just after 1:30. Grinning wickedly, he quietly closed the door of his SUV so as not to awaken the sleeping woman inside. The duplex was dark and quiet at this hour. As he knocked on the door, Brian couldn't help but wonder what her reaction would be.
Kasi was startled awake, by a knock at her door! Rolling out of bed, she pulled the curtain aside, peeking out to see who it could be. With a gasp of surprise, she hurried around the foot of her bed, stubbing her toe in the process! Muttering a string of curses under her breath, Kasi hobbled to the door.
Brian was delighted when the door was jerked open by a very beautiful woman holding her foot! He tried in vain, to hide his amusement when he realized she was cursing her bed!
"Come on in! That damn worm eaten piece of shit has GOT to go!" She muttered grumpily, hopping out of the way, still holding her abused foot.
"AHMM! You ok?" Brian was trying HARD not to grin!
Giving him an irritated look, Kasi closed the door behind him!
"Yes! I stubbed my toe! Think I broke the damn thing! It's good to see you Brian! I hadn't expected to see you so soon, but I'm glad you're here!" She said softly, looking up at him with loving eyes.
Unable to resist the unspoken invitation, Brian pulled her to him and kissed her. The kiss quickly became passionate, as they clung to each other.
Kasi broke the embrace rather reluctantly. Her flushed cheeks and ragged breathing bespoke the depths of her emotions. Putting a little distance between them, Kasi turned to face Brian.
"Are you hungry? Can I fix you something to eat?" Her soft voice was like velvet to his ears.
"Cup of coffee would be nice!" His soft drawl was like music to her ears. She had missed him terribly!
"Sure thing! Come on and keep me company!" She said as she led him into her kitchen.
After she started the coffee, Kasi turned to find Brian standing directly behind her. Taking her hand, he pulled her back into his arms, enjoying the feel of her against him. Holding her close, he breathed in a sigh of relief. This felt right! This was the way it was suppose to be! Brian ran his hand up and down her back, caressing her!
"OH, Brian! I'm so sorry!" Kasi groaned softly, miserably, burying her face against his thick chest.
Laughing softly, he tilted her head back so he could look into her eyes. "There's nothing to be sorry about! You were doing your job! And THAT'S something my cousin had to point out to me! That and the fact he just wanted to yank my chain!" Brian said, grinning that beautiful grin of his!
Kasi searched his eyes to see if he meant it or if he was just paying lip service. But he was serious! His eyes met hers openly and honestly! Tears filled her eyes, tears of relief and happiness, that he had truly forgiven her!
Wrapping her arms tightly around him, she couldn't prevent the flood of tears that soon had his shirt front damp!
"Hush now! There's no need for all this! Hush now, Babe!" His soft drawl, and his arms around her, were soothing... giving comfort now, as well as pleasure.
Finally she pulled back, wiping her cheeks with the back of her hand. Turning away, she poured them a cup of coffee.
"Brian, sit down! We need to talk!" Her soft voice and misty eyes touched him.
The big man looked at her curiously, taking the cup from her, and sat down at her table. He waited for her to tell him what was on her mind. Kasi sat down next to him. Nervously she fidgeted about, not knowing exactly HOW to begin!
Brian sipped his coffee, giving her time to gather herself together. Whatever was on her mind, was serious! His gentle gaze never left her face!
"Brian, I've got something to tell you! I'm going to have a baby!" She said meeting his eyes, wondering what he was thinking. Wide-eyed surprise was his only reaction, as he sat down his cup, staring in astonishment at her. Finally, he broke out in a delighted grin!
~Chapter 8!~
"A BABY!" Brian couldn't have been more surprised! "Are you sure?"
Brian dropped his eyes to the cup in front of him. Taking a sip of the hot coffee, he thought about the bomb she had just dropped on him! He didn't know what to say or think! A BABY! Brian's eyes met hers over the rim of his cup. He read apprehension, nervousness, and a quiet strength of purpose. And LOVE! He read love there, as well!
Setting his cup back down, Brian reached across the short distance and took her hand.
"Don't worry, I'll be there for you!" The tender look, the gruff voice, calmed most of her fears! She had been worried about what his reaction was going to be!
Tears filled her eyes! Tears of relief! Seeing this Brian moved his chair back, and pulled her over to sit on his lap. She buried her face in the curve of his neck, giving free reign to her tears. Brian murmured softly to her. His hands caressing her, further calming her.
Kasi finally turned her damp face up to his. Her soft mouth sought out and found his. Her kiss was hungry...passionate...demanding! She wanted him! She wanted him NOW!
Pulling away, she quickly got to her feet. Standing before him, she told him what was in her heart!
"I love you, Brian! I always have! No matter what, I'm going to have this baby! I pray this works for us, but I didn't tell you to try and trap you into making a commitment, but because it was the right thing to do! I want you!" She finished softly. Her velvety voice worked on his senses! His blue eyes ran hotly over her body!
Very slowly, Brian removed his clothing, never taking his eyes off hers. He stood up, removing his tight black jeans. And he was ready! Kasi stepped closer, dropping her simple cotton gown to the floor as she did. With eyes nearly black with desire, her arms slid up around his neck, pulling his head down to her. Her lips found his, as his arms wrapped around her slim body, pulling her tightly to him.
Brian wanted more! He lifted her effortlessly off her feet. His lips moved sensuously over hers, then moved across her check, then down her neck. Kasi had wrapped her silky legs around his hips, wanting more of him! Her hands ran over the broad expanse of his shoulders. Reaching behind her, feeling for the table, Brian knocked their cups to the floor, clearing the table, then set her down on it.
Gently pushing her back till she was laying on the table, Brian feasted on her beauty. His hands and mouth touched her everywhere, Slowly, his mouth traced a path down her trembling body! When he got to THAT place, she cried out his name as wave after wave of pleasure washed over her! Brian stayed with her till the sensations began to ebb away! Only then did he straighten up.
Kasi was gasping for breath, her eyes closed, her cheeks flushed. As her heartbeat slowed, only then did she open her eyes to look at him. Brian slowly, very slowly, buried himself in her willing softness! It was full daylight before they sought out the comfort of her bed!
Brian came awake reluctantly. Sounds and smells drifted in from the kitchen, slowly penetrating through his sleep, bringing him gradually awake. Sitting up in the big bed, he rubbed the sleep from his eyes, then ran a hand through his tangled hair. He had been exhausted, what with the 5 hour drive to get here, not to mention all those nights of almost NO sleep after he sent her away,then what followed between them. He grinned as THAT particular memory returned. Giving in to a jaw-cracking yawn, Brian got up, pulled on his jeans, then went in search of Kasi. He found her making breakfast.
"Morning, Babe!" His voice muffled against the side of her neck, his big arms going around her, pulling her back against him. A satisfied smile curved her lips, as she leaned back against his huge body!
"Afternoon is more like it! Did you sleep well? Are you hungry?" She asked, turning in his embrace! Her soft look and softer lips were an invitation he couldn't resist.
Brian lowered his head to hers, covering her mouth with his. His hands slid down over her backside, pulling her even tighter against him, leaving little doubt as to what he wanted. He was hungry but not for food! With grim determination, he pulled her with him down to the floor.
"GOOD LORD! On the kitchen floor, Brian?" Kasi laughed even as she allowed herself to be pulled down by the big man. Reaching out toward her range, she fumbled around feeling for the knob to turn off the burner.
Grinning that smart-assed grin of his, Brian supported his greater weight as he covered her body with his own. Finally he lowered his mouth to hers, this time the kiss was full of warmth...longing...and most of all passion.
Kasi moved her body slightly to better accommidate his much larger one. She welcomed his touch, came alive under it, reveled in it. Brian was all she ever wanted! She prayed this baby took after him, had his eyes, and glorious hair! Moaning softly, she raised her hips as he tore away her underwear. She was ready for him! He could see the love shining in her eyes as she looked up into his, as he joined his body with hers. It was much later when they finally got around to eating the cold breakfast.
That night, while sitting in her favorite restaurant, Brian asked her the question that was upper-most in his mind.
"Kasi, will you move in with me?" He waited, chewing his steak, wondering what her answer would be.
Her eyes widened in surprise. She hadn't expected this!
"Move in with you? Brian... I... I don't know!" She stammered, not knowing what to say. She laid her fork down, and nervously twisted her napkin.
His eyes never left hers, he was disappointed, though he didn't show it! He watched as she regained her composure.
"Brian, I don't know what to say! I hadn't expected this!" Kasi looked at him, uncertain as to what to say!
"I was hoping you'd say yes!" He drawled. Lifting his glass, he took a sip of the iced tea, suddenly not very hungry any more.
Dropping her eyes to the plate in front of her, she took a sip of her tea, thinking about what he said for all of ten seconds.
"Brian, I love you, and will take you anyway I can have you! We don't have to live together. I don't want you to feel obligated. But if that's what you REALLY want to do, then YES! I'll move in with you, but only if that's what YOU really WANT! Not out of some sense of obligation to take care of me! I don't want to do this just because I'm pregnant! I want you to REALLY think about it for a few days, then ask me again!" Kasi's insecurity was showing. Brian's relief was overwhelming. He had been afraid she no longer cared!
The heated gaze he sent her, made her gasp. Suddenly neither of them were hungry for food. So when he suggested they leave, she was more than willing to go! As he tossed some money on the table to pay for their mostly untouched food, she reached out taking his hand in hers. They very quickly left the restaurant. Brain held the door of her car for her, then climbed in under the wheel. Turning the Ford toward the interstate, they were soon headed home.
Kasi told him to take exit 93. As they left the interstate, she gave him directions on how to reach her house, by taking the backroads.
"DAMN! It's DARK out here in the boonies!" Brian grumbled softly, cursing as yet another deer darted out in front of them.
With all his attention centered on the road, it took a minute for him to realize just what she was doing after she released her seatbelt. Surprise kept him quiet, as he slumped down slightly, to allow her easier access to the buttons on his jeans. When she had him free, Kasi loved him till he became worried of running them off the road. At that point, he pulled off on the side of the dark, country road.
Moaning loudly, Brian LOVED what she was doing to him, and was EXTREMELY close to losing all control. GAWD ALMIGHTY, what she was doing with her teeth and her tongue! His eyes rolled back in much the same way Taker's did!
Unable to stand it any longer, he let go, after she had resisted all his attempts to push her away. Kasi didn't stop until he was gasping for breath and trembling weakly.
Resettling herself, she looked over at him primly. Surprise and absolute satisfaction was clearly visible in his amazed blue eyes. Her look was one of total innocence.
"I hope you didn't mind! But that was something I wanted to do!" Her soft voice and innocent look ignited the flames of desire again.
"MIND? Hell, I LOVED it! How much further to your house?" His gruff voice and hot eyes had her pulse racing and she couldn't wait for them to get home.
Within minutes, they were pulling into her driveway. Brian hadn't bothered to re-button his jeans, merely hitched them up a little higher as he got out of her car. After opening her door, he helped her out of the car, threw her across his shoulder, and sprinted up the steps to her front door. Once inside, he carried her to her bedroom, tossing her down on the bed. Seconds later, they were both naked and in each others arms. They loved till just before dawn, finally giving in to the need for sleep.
~Chapter 9!~
The morning dawned hot and humid! Just another west Tennessee late summer day! The central unit had been working over-time lately! The forecast called for a 90% chance of thunderstorms later in the day and Kasi hoped this time they were right!
She had been up since about 4:00 A.M. unable to sleep. Kasi had quietly left Brian sleeping soundly and had gone to stand in the enclosed back yard! She had built a privacy fence around the patio, right out her back door. She attempted to catch what ever breeze might be stirring, as she stood in the middle of the huge yard. Even with the air on inside, Kasi was troubled by the heat!
Sighing heartily, she suspected her pregnancy was the reason behind her discomfort. Walking over to the wicker rocker, she sat down and pulled her long hair up off her neck. Beads of sweat ran down between her shoulder blades and down the valley between her breasts.
The wind picked up somewhat, blowing a few leaves and dust devils across the brick. She was still out there a short time later, when the sun began turning the sky a beautiful rosy hue. Sitting there, enjoying the early morning, Kasi happened to glance around and saw Brian standing in the doorway, watching her, wearing nothing but a gentle smile!
Smiling back, Kasi got up and went to him. Slipping her arms around his waist, she planted a soft kiss in the center of his massive chest.
"Morning!" She murmured against his chest.
Her lips traced a fiery path across the broad expanse. Brian gasped as she bit then gently sucked on his sensitive nipples. Growling deep inside that same chest, Brian grabbed her up, and carried her back to bed. He kicked the kitchen door closed behind him. It would be several hours later before they would emerge from her bedroom again.
"That's ok, I have an errand I need to take care of, anyway! What would you like for dinner? Steaks and salads ok?" She asked, pulling on a pair of denim shorts and a cotton tee.
"Yeah, that sounds good! Need anything while I'm gone?" He asked, buttoning up his jeans as his eyes caressed her.
"Only for you to hurry back!" She said softly as she slipped her arms around him. She knew without a doubt, that she loved this man above all others!
Gazing down into her gentle eyes, Brian had to swallow passed the lump in his throat. The love he saw in this woman's eyes, touched him in ways no one else ever had. His heart skipped a beat then began to race away. Brian lowered his head, till his lips covered hers, in a kiss that was both tender and filled with the promise of more to come.
"I won't be long! I promise!" Brian said huskily as he reluctantly pulled away. His baby blues looked dark and stormy with desire as he stepped back.
Kasi stood in the doorway and watched as he backed out of her driveway and headed in to town. Waving one last time, she went back in the house, and got ready to leave too. She had a meeting with Mack in thirty minutes and was dreading it.
The meeting with Mack would be a hard one, at best. After being shown in to his private office, she got right to the business at hand.
"Mack...you've been very important to me, both in my personal life and in my career. But I'm in love with Brian, and I'm going to have his baby." Glancing nervously at the man seated across from her, she saw a look of angry resignation on his familiar face.
"I thought as much! Have you told him yet?" He asked quietly, wishing it were him rather than Lee.
"Yes I have! Mack, please be happy for me!" She softly pleaded for understanding.
"I was afraid of this! I do want you to be happy, but I had hoped it would be with me, not another man!" He replied bitterly. Resentment, and hurt were clearly visible in his eyes.
"I know! Mack, this wasn't planned." She said quietly, finally meeting his eyes.
"Kasi...I think you know how I feel! I love you and always have! If you ever need me, I'm here! He just better treat you right!" Mack got up and walked her to the door, wanting this meeting to end!
Brian beat her back to the house by a few minutes. He had gone to a jewelry store they had driven past the other night, and bought her a diamond necklace. He planned to give it to her tonight after dinner.
Brian had the extra key to her door and let himself in. He had taken the steaks out and was getting them ready to put on the grill, when Kasi arrived. When she walked in, he took one look at her and knew the meeting with her publisher had not been easy. She had told him about their relationship, along with her suspicions that Mack was in love with her.
"How'd it go?" He asked, pulling her into his arms.
"Bout as well as I expected!" She said, more tired than she could ever remember being.
"How do you like your steak? Tonight, I'll cook!" Brian felt sorry for the unknown man. She was truly a woman worth loving! "You go take a nap. I'll call you when dinner's ready!" He said softly.
He watched as she went into her bedroom. The slight droop of her shoulders spoke volumes as to the extent of her exhaustion. Physical or emotional, would be hard to say which it was. Shaking his head slightly, Brian turned back to the task at hand.
Kasi came awake abruptly! She quickly scrambled out of bed and just DID make it to the bathroom before the nausea erupted. This was the worst! Brian found her there, head hanging over the toilet, dry-heaving.
Taking a wash cloth from the neatly folded stack on the shelf, he soaked it in cold water, then laid it across the back of her neck. He wet another , handing it to her as she weakly stood up.
"How long you been there?" She asked, taking the cool rag, mortified by him seeing her being sick!
"Just came in! You ok?" He asked, leaning against her dryer. She was white as a sheet and had dark smudges under her eyes.
"I'll survive! Thought this was suppose to happen in the mornings?" She grumbled hoarsely.
She took her toothbrush down, squeezed out some paste, and brushed her teeth vigorously. Afterwards, she rinsed out her mouth with mouth wash. Her coloring was gradually returning to normal.
"Come on, Babe! I'll get you something to drink!" Brian said solicitously, hugging her briefly.
She let him lead her into the kitchen, where she took a seat at the table. Seeing the food on the table, she hastily averted her eyes, then turned sideways, away from the food. The delectable smells of steak and hot buttered potatoes and baked beans, filled her nostrils, even as her stomach heaved once more.
Brian had his back to her, filling a glass with ice for tea. Hearing her agonized moan,then running away, he looked around wondering what was wrong. It dawned on him, that she was back in the bathroom, throwing up again.
He sat the iced tea down, took a sprite out of the fridge, and got a sleeve of crackers down from the cabinet. Brian went back in to see about her. The sour smell met him before he got to the bathroom door. She hadn't made it in time, and was down on her knees trying to clean up the mess.
Sitting the stuff down on the night stand, Brian pulled her to her feet and carried her back to the bed.
"You lay there and rest. Eat a few crackers and take a few sips of the sprite when you feel better. I'll clean up, but you stay put till this passes!" His compassion was touching! The sympathy he felt for her misery could be seen in his eyes as he knelt down beside her.
Kasi's surprise that he knew what to do to ease her plight, was obvious. She could only stare wide-eyed, at him as he pushed back a stray lock of hair. His gentleness brought tears to her eyes. She watched as he went back to the bathroom and cleaned up in there, and was still watching as he came back to her side several minutes later. The sounds of the washer filling, drifted out to them.
"Thank you! I feel better already!" She whispered softly, her eyes glittering brilliantly.
Leaning forward, Brian kissed her gently on the cheek. "I'm glad!" Was all he said. The tender look in his eyes, spoke volumes.
They stayed that way, talking quietly till the nausea passed. She nibbled on a cracker and sipped some of the soda, before attempting to get back up. Even then, Kasi avoided the kitchen for a short time, till she was fairly certain she wouldn't be sick again. Only then did the couple go in to eat dinner.
"I can't right now. I have a doctor's appointment next week, and I'll need to stay in touch with Mack for the next month or so. There will be things to do concerning the book... Brian, I have a copy of the manuscript. I want you to read it." She watched him, curious as to his reaction. This was a work Kasi was proud of, and hoped he would like it.
Brian felt a moments disappointment, then reluctance as he thought about the source of their separation. Seeing the hopeful look in her eyes, he knew he'd read the damn thing! He wouldn't do anything to take away that look.
"OK! I'll read it when I come back. Have you thought any more about moving in with me?" He asked as he finished packing. He looked at her, waiting for her answer.
"I'd love to, but don't think now would be the right time to do it. I need to get some stuff out of the way here first. Then we'll do it!" Kasi saw the disappointment in his eyes, even as she slipped her arms around him. She laid her head against his chest, drawing comfort from him. His arms went around her, pulling her closer.
"Good enough! I'll be back in ten days! But for now, I really do need to go! I have to stop by the school and check on some stuff there before going on to Atlanta." Brian kissed her then pulled away reluctantly. He wished she were going with him.
She went out to the truck with him as he stowed his gear in the back. When he walked back over to her, he leaned down kissing her rather passionately.
"I'll call you tonight! I love you!" He said huskily, as he gazed deep into her eyes.
"Good! I'd like that! I love you too! I'm gonna be counting the minutes till you come back to me!" Tears glittered in her eyes. She wished she were going with him. As she watched him back out and drive away, Kasi knew her heart was going with him.
Brian was just outside of the Nashville city limits when his cell phone rang.
"Hello!" He said, keeping his eyes on the heavy traffic all around him.
"Is this Mr. Lee?" The deputy asked.
"Yes! Who is this?" Brian asked, wondering who this man was, and how he had gotten Brian's number.
"This is Deputy Samuals with the Madison County Sheriff's Department. There's been an accident. Do you know a lady by the name of Kasi Richards?" The voice asked.
"Yes, is she alright?" Brian asked, feeling sick to his stomach for some unknown reason.
"Ms. Richards was hit by a drunk driver while on her way in to town. She's been taken to General Hospital. It doesn't look good!" The voice informed him.
"I'll be there in a couple of hours!" Brain managed to say, even as he looked for a turn around heading back in the direction he had just come. Any thing else the deputy may have said was lost as Brian cut the connection.
Kasi lay there on the bed hurting more than she thought possible to and still be drawing breath. Slowly she opened first one eye and then the other. She knew without being told, that she had lost the baby. Tears filled her eyes, and slid down her face, as she looked toward the window. She wished Brian were here to make it stop hurting.
"Can I get you anything?" He asked softly from the dark corner. He unfolded his long body from the chair, when he saw she was awake.
The doctor told him that it had been a near thing, with her, and they were afraid she might slip away as well. Brian had gazed down at her heavily sedated form, and knew such despair it hurt. She HAD lost the baby, but at least she was still alive.
The driver that had plowed into her, had a record for driving drunk. The deputy that had called him, was waiting at the hospital when he got there, and had filled him in on the accident. Lord help the guy if Lee got his hands on him!
"How long have you been here?" She asked hoarsely. Her eyes had purple smudges under them.
"All afternoon! You had just been brought to the room, when I got here!" He sat down beside her, gingerly, as he took her hand in his.
"Brian, I'm sorry about the baby!" She swallowed hard, trying to hold back the tears.
Brian took her in his arms, holding her as she grieved for their lost child. Tears filled his eyes as well. He crooned to her, murmuring what words of comfort he could think of, even as tears streamed down his own face.
"Hush now. I'm here, and I don't intend to leave any time soon either!" Brian"s husky voice was soothing to her, giving her comfort even as her heart was breaking for the loss of her little girl.
Brian had been surprised to learn the sex of the baby. He intended to take her away with him when she felt better. They would have others, as many as she wanted. He ran his hand caressingly up and down her back. He would pay the guy that did this a visit in the morning.
The look on Brian's face would have frightened any one that happened to see it. The anger in his heart was murderous in it's intensity. Yes, he would pay that man a visit.
