“Well, you’re in a good mood.” Lightning commented as he and Kane drove to the arena for the house show that night. Kane had a light shining in his eyes that Lighting had not ever seen once in the time that he’d known Kane.

“What’s up?”

Kane looked at his big friend and smiled. Yes, he was in a good mood. He felt better than he had in a long time. All day long he’d had a grin on his face that didn’t seem to show any signs of fading.

“Kali called me this morning and we talked.” Kane replied as he turned the car into the parking ramp that was adjoined to the arena.

“And?” Lightning prompted, finally understanding the change in Kane’s attitude.

“I’m going to see her this weekend.” Kane answered as he parked the car and carefully maneuvered his large frame out of the seat.

“And what about Taker?” Lighting saw Kane’s eyes cloud and for a split second he regretted asking Kane. The last thing he needed was to be on the receiving end of Kane’s fury. And that was exactly what it looked like was going to happen.

“I’m sorry, man….I shouldn’t have asked.” Lightning apologized.

Kane sighed, effectively releasing the tension from his big body. He knew that he couldn’t really be upset with Taker. After all, Kali was an adult…old enough to make her own decision, although it still baffled Kane as to why she had chosen to pair up with the likes of Taker. Loneliness perhaps. Most likely a form of revenge towards him for all of the hell that he’d put her through. Whatever the reason, it all went back to his actions that had thrown all of the shit against the fan in the first place. Kane still had not forgiven himself for all of that. It would be a long, long time before he did…if ever.

“Well, apparently she has come to her senses where he is concerned.” Kane finally stated as he opened the trunk and took his bag out. Lightning did the same.

“I don’t suppose that you had anything to do with her change of heart.” Lightning commented as he looked over at Kane. He could easily see each and every emotion that Kane was feeling at that time reflected in his dark hazel eyes. Lightning didn’t know the whole story, but he knew enough to know that Kane was damn lucky that Kali was even talking to him.

“Who me? I would never!” Kane grinned innocently as he held his hands over his head in the shape of a halo.

Lightning laughed deeply, glad to see that Kane’s mood had lightened once again. “I think that your halo is a little tarnished, my friend.” He joked and then his expression turned serious.

“Look, I really don’t know what all happened between you and Kali, but I sincerely hope that you two will be able to work through whatever it was that drove you two apart in the first place.” He could tell that Kane was still very much in love with his ex-wife, and he wanted to see his friend happy.

“Thanks, I do too.” Kane replied, although he really didn’t need to. The expression in his eyes told better than any words could. There was nothing more he wanted in his life than to be able to work things out with Kali and have her in his life again. With out her it wasn’t the same. There was a big piece of him missing since she’d been absent from his life.

He could tell from talking with her that her feelings for him were still there. But would their love for each other be enough if she couldn’t ever be able to trust him again after all that had happened. He heard the hesitation in her voice when he’d asked if he could see her, and Kane knew that her wounds were still very raw. He’d learned the hard way from his mistakes and Kane knew that he would never ever betray her again like he’d done in the past. The million dollar question was….How would he ever be able to make her see this?

*****

After fixing a sandwich and pouring a glass of milk, Kali sat down in front of her computer, hoping to get caught up on some work that she’d fallen behind on. An hour later, she groaned in frustration as she stood up and switched the computer off, having not gotten a thing accomplished. Her mind was on everything but the work that she needed to get done before the deadline was up the following week. She just could not concentrate.

She walked into her bedroom and lay down on the bed with an exhausted sigh. She had never been so tired in all her life. Even sleeping ten to twelve hours a night, she still woke up in the morning feeling like she hadn’t slept a second and found herself taking a nap before the morning was gone on most days.

She closed her eyes as her thoughts turned to Kane. She felt like she was happy to be seeing him again, but at the same time, something seemed to be missing. She didn’t know exactly how she would feel once she saw him face to face. He’d caused her an overwhelming amount of hurt and even though several months had gone by since those events had taken place, her heart still ached painfully every time she thought about it. She still blamed Kane for the devastating loss of her first pregnancy and she wasn’t sure if she could ever get past that. But at any rate, she was seeing him in a few days. Until then, there was no way that she could concretely say how she would feel.

Kali must have fallen asleep lying there because the next time she opened her eyes, several hours had passed according to the clock. She sat up and looked around the darkened room feeling a little disoriented from the dream that still lingered in her mind. It had seemed so real that for a moment she was almost certain that some one really had broken into her apartment while she was sleeping and was hiding some where in the dark shadows waiting for the precisely right moment to attack.

“Quit being so silly!” She whispered to herself, mostly in an effort to calm the fear that she felt growing inside of her. There was no way anyone could of broken into her apartment and she didn’t hear them….Or was that what had awakened her?

“This is nuts!” She said to herself again as she got up and walked out of the room. She was only getting herself more worked up and adding stress that she didn’t need. She shiver that raced along her spine as she walked by the closet doors didn’t go unnoticed.

She glanced at the phone and was surprised to see ‘message waiting’ light flashing on the answering machine. She hadn’t even heard the phone ring while she had been asleep. She walked over and pressed the button so she could listen to the message and was more than a little surprised when she heard Chris’ voice. After the way she had treated him that day she ran into him when she was in Miami with Taker, she didn’t think she’d ever hear from him again. She had wanted to call him lately but had never been able to gather up enough courage. She smiled as she listened to what he had to say….He wanted to talk to her, and if possible he wanted to see her.

She immediately picked up the phone and punched in his cell number. Just hearing his voice and knowing that he wanted to talk to her gave her all the courage that she had been trying to muster. Her heart began to pound furiously against her ribs as she put in the last two numbers and then listened to the first ring.

After about the third ring, Kali turned around and looked over her shoulder, suddenly feeling like she was being watched.

“Hello?” Chris’ voice broke in on the other end of her phone. Kali was silent as her eyes intently searched the darkened room behind her. She saw nothing, but was still unable to shake her feelings of apprehension.

“Hello?” Chris asked once again after not getting any reply after several seconds the first time.

Hearing Chris’ voice, Kali turned her attention back to the phone. “Hey Chris.” She tried to sound cheerful, but even to her own ears, her voice sounded fake and full of unease.

“I’m sorry that I didn’t hear when you called earlier. I was asleep and….” Kali trailed off as she spun around, her eyes wide with fright when she heard the floor creak behind her. Again, she saw nothing.

“Everything okay there?” He asked as he picked up the keys for his rental car and left his hotel room. He easily detected something in her voice as she spoke. He wasn’t quite sure what it was, but to him, it sounded like something had her scared.

Kali forced a little laugh. “Yeah, I’m fine, Chris. I just woke up from a nap and have been freaking myself out over nothing since then.” She answered his question, feeling slightly better just from talking to him.

Chris still wasn’t convinced. By the time that he exited out of the back hotel entrance and reached his car, his concern had heightened further. He didn’t know why, but he genuinely felt afraid for her.

“Kal, I’m already in town and I’m on my way over there right now.” Hoping that Kali would agree to see him and have the next two days off, Chris had flown into Rapid City earlier that day. He’d called her just after getting to his hotel only an hour earlier.

“What?!” Kali exclaimed as she felt an over whelming sense of relief over her, not to mention that sense of excitement that quickly followed. She couldn’t wait to see him.

“What are you doing in town? Is there a show or something?” She asked immediately after.

“No, I just had a few days off and I wanted to see you.” Chris explained.

“So, let me see if I have this straight….You didn’t even know if I would agree to see you, but you flew in anyway?” Kali laughed. It sounded exactly like something that Chris would do. He was always doing things on the spur of the moment.

“What if I’d had said that I didn’t want to see you? Then your time off would be wasted.” Kali commented and then stopped. Damn…there was that feeling that she was being watched again. She looked over her shoulder again and sighed when she saw nothing. She took a deep breath and slowly let it out in an effort to calm her nerves as she again told herself how silly she was being.

“Then I would have just sat in my hotel room and sulked.” Chris replied with a laugh, knowing that he wouldn’t have given up that easily.

“Okay, I’m turning into your parking lot right now. I’ll see you in a few minutes.” Chris said as he turned his car into the parking area for the building and stopped his car in one of the spots that was designated for visitors.

“Good, I can’t wait—“ Kali was cut off as an agonizing pain filled her head. The phone slipped from her hand unnoticed as she fell to the floor. She forced her eyes open and a small cry of fear escaped her when she saw the person standing over her holding a baseball bat in one of his hands. Her eyes widened when she saw the end of the bat stained with blood…her blood.

“Kal?” Chris asked urgently when she had suddenly cut off and he heard the phone crash to the floor. He jumped out of his car and ran into the building and up the steps to where her apartment was.

Kali heard Chris’ voice threw the phone and remembered that she had been talking to him. With out thinking, she reached for the phone that had fallen down beside her. Just before she could reach it, the intruder hit her again. As she felt peaceful darkness settling upon her, she prayed that Chris would get there soon.

*****

Chris paced the small waiting room that was located just outside of the emergency room. It had been over an hour since they’d arrived there, but he still hadn’t gotten any news on Kali. When he’d gotten to her apartment, he found the door slightly open, but there were no signs of a forced entry. Still, he could not shake the feeling that something wasn’t right..

He cautiously entered and after searching all of the rooms, he finally found her in the back of the apartment just outside of her bedroom where the phone was located and she’d been talking to him. The intruder was bent over Kali, urgently ripping at her clothes. He’d been so occupied with what he was doing that he hadn’t even heard Chris come in. Chris quickly got the better of the smaller man and beat him within an inch of his miserable life.

Chris called for help and in no time the police and paramedics arrived. The man was immediately arrested, having been wanted in several other crimes of this nature, including numerous rape charges. Kali would have been his next victim had Chris not been there.

“Mr. Jericho?” Chris heard a voice ask, snapping him out of his thoughts. He turned around to find one of the attending residents there.

“How is Kali?” Chris asked as he stepped forward, holding his hand out to the doctor.

“I’m Dr. Benton.” He said as he briefly shook Chris’ hand. Then he was silent again for a moment. Although the news was good for the most part, he still hated this part of his job. No matter how many times he’d done it, he could never get used to it.

“It seems that your wife will be fine.” Dr. Benton began again, automatically assuming that she and Chris were married. Chris didn’t say anything to correct him either.

“The scan we did of her head to check for bleeding, swelling or any bone fractures is clear, although she does have a concussion and has yet to regain consciousness. I feel that she’ll wake up at any time now though.” He paused for a moment and looked down at the chart that he held in his hand before continuing.

“She was showing some signs of labor, but we’ve given her some IV medicine and the contractions have mostly stopped by now. The baby has good, strong heart tones. We also did a sonogram and everything looks great as of now.” He finished as he looked at Chris, not missing the look of complete surprise in his bright blue eyes. It was pretty apparent to him that Chris didn’t know about the baby.

Chris quickly recovered from his shock. “Please…can I see her.” He needed to see Kali with his own eyes and make sure that she really was going to be fine.

“Yes, in a few moments. She’s being transferred upstairs to be admitted to the hospital. In the mean time, the police need to take your statement. By time you get finished with that, she should be all settled in.”

Chris honestly did not know what to say to this man to thank him for everything that he’d done.

“Glad I could help.” Dr. Benton said as he turned and walked away. He didn’t need Chris to tell him how appreciative he was. The expression in his eyes told him better.

Chapter 47!~Judy!

Brent had to do some serious fast talking, before Judy agreed to get off the Interstate.

"Brent...you better come up with something better than what you have so far!" She said grimly, as she pulled the car in to the parking lot of the Howard Johnson's.

They had gotten a late start, and now the sun was going down. The twins were getting cranky, tired of riding, and hungry as well. So was she, for that matter! Stopping for a rest began to sound awfully good to her.

Sighing deeply, Brent closed his eyes, dropped his head and silently counted to ten before continuing.

"I hate to have to say this, but you are acting like a child! You know as well as I do, that Taker is just blowing smoke to piss you off! Seems to me like it's worked too!" He said tiredly. He'd covered the same ground, using the same arguments, trying to make her see reason. "Besides, if you don't go back, you may make him suspicious enough to want to pay a visit. And THAT you don't want." Brent reasoned.

Judy thought about it and knew he was right. In fact, without knowing it, she had already decided to turn around and take them to her cabin, that even Brent didn't know about! Besides, Taker snooping around in her business was one thing she did NOT want! She didn't want him anywhere in her life!

Pulling the car in front of the office, she went inside and rented two rooms. She was tired and needed to think this thing through! Maybe Brent WAS right! A few minutes later, she returned to the car with their room keys.

"We'll stay here for the time being. I'm tired and so are you!" Judy pulled around to the back where their rooms were.

After unloading what they would need for the night, Judy asked Brent if he was hungry.

"I hope so, cuz I'm starved!" She said grinning at the confused look on his face.

"As a matter of fact, I am!" He wondered what made her change her mind.

"Would you mind going to the restaurant and get us some food? I need to get the kids settled." She said brightly.

"No problem! What do you want?" He asked.

"Bacon and egg sandwich on wheat toast, with a side of French fries or hash browns. Feel like eating very UN-healthy tonight. And get whatever you think for the kids!" Judy handed him forty dollars and watched as he walked across the parking lot.

By the time he returned, the twins had been bathed and were playing on the floor.

French toast and sausage links for them!" Brent said as he set the food out on the small table. They each took a child and fed them. Once they had eaten all they wanted, Judy washed their sticky faces and hands then returned them to their toys on the floor. She rejoined Brent at the table to eat her own dinner.

Judy didn't say anything as she sat across from Brent. Watching the twins playing, as she picked at her food, her thoughts a million miles away. Soon, the twins were rubbing sleepily at their eyes, and looking for a comfortable place to lay down.

"Penny for your thoughts!" Brent said quietly, watching her closely.

Looking at him, Judy gave him a tired smile as she sipped her coffee.

"You're right! As always! Brent I don't know what I'd do without you! You keep me grounded. But I don't know how to deal with this! I don't like being threatened. I don't take too kindly to it." Reaching for her cigarettes, she lit one up, blowing smoke toward the ceiling.

"Don't worry about it. Everything will work out!" Brent wiped his mouth on a paper napkin, then finished his dinner. He noticed she had hardly touched hers. "I think you should go back on tour. Finish out your contract, then come home and resume your life." He watched her reaction to his words.

Judy had turned thoughtful. Maybe she had acted hastily. God knows it wasn't the first time, and wouldn't be the last. Yet when Taker had threatened her, she had reacted without thought. She was determined to protect her children at all costs.

Looking up at Brent, she knew he would approve of her decision. "OK! You win! I'll take y'all back. But Brent, I'm taking you to my cabin in Wears Valley. I'll not take you back to the house. No one knows about the cabin so I feel safe in leaving y'all there. Once you're settled, then I'll call J.R. and arrange to re-join the tour. I should be back for good within the month, then all this will be behind me for good. And I AM going to move! Start over someplace else!" Judy finished quietly. Steely determination underlined each word she uttered.

Brent breathed a sigh of relief. At least she had given up the idea of running. He suspected she would stand up to Taker, calling his bluff. "When do you want to start back?" He asked.

Trying unsuccessfully to stifle a yawn, Judy grinned somewhat embarrassed. "I thought maybe around midnight! That way traffic will be lighter, and we should reach the cabin by three A.M. It's not real isolated, yet you have to know where it is, or you'll miss the turn off. And there is a station wagon there for your use. Everything you might need or want is there, including a back-up generator." Judy tried in vain to stifle another yawn. Brent knew she hadn't slept well since returning home.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Judy turned off the main road, on to the almost hidden driveway. It looked more like a service road a farmer might use to gain access to his fields, but she liked that about this property. Less than half a mile further, she went around a curve in the road, and there it was....right in the center of ten acres. To the east and south, the mountains offered a breathtaking view. To the north and west were woods! Two huge security lights lit the area surrounding the 3000 square foot cabin.
Brent couldn't believe what he was seeing. Even in the harsh light provided by the security lights, the place was amazing. He couldn't wait to see it in the day time. He could see the garage attached to the cabin by what appeared to be a ten foot covered walkway.
Judy smiled at the surprised look clearly visible on Brent's handsome face. She was proud of her cabin, her own secret hideaway. Judy had bought it less than four months ago. Her boss at the agency had called her telling her about it. She bought it that same day, after receiving the fax-ed photos of the place. She had spent four nights in it, choosing to fly into Knoxville rather than landing at the airport at home.
"I take it, you approve?" Judy asked, a hint of humor in her voice.
"DAAMMMNNN! I can't believe this place....it's incredible!" Brent's appreciation was obvious.
Laughing softly, knowing just how he felt, having experienced the same thing the first time she saw it.
"Come on, let's get the kids in to bed. We can unload the car in the morning." Judy sid, pleased he liked the cabin.
"Sure thing!" Brent couldn't wait to see the inside, wondering if it was as impressive inside as well.
After putting the twins in their own beds, making sure they went back to sleep, Judy gave Brent a brief a tour of the place. It had been completely furnished when she bought it. The only furniture she had added, had been the twins beds and a black leather sofa for the living room. Colorful throw pillows were the only adornment for the butter soft leather sofa. All the other rooms had been decorated in heavy oak furniture. They talked and laughed a short time, then finally sought out their own beds.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"WHAT! When did this happen?" Kane listened as Chris told him about Kali's attack.

"Last night! I came to talk to her and found her apartment door ajar." Chris said. He had felt honor bound to call Kane. After all, he HAD been married to Kali. Chris knew Kane still loved her.

"I'll be there as soon as I can get a flight out! Oh, and Chris? Thanks for calling!" Kane hung up the phone. He felt as though the bottom had dropped out of his world. Running a shaking hand through his hair, Kane's thoughts were on his ex-wife.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kane had called Chris from the airport, letting him know he was on his way to the hospital. Chris met him as Kane stepped off the elevator.
"I thought I'd give you some time alone with her. I'm going to get something to eat!" Chris said, as he filled the big man in.
Chris watched with mixed emotions, as Kane walked down the hall to Kali's room. He knew the big man still loved her. But so did Chris! AND, Chris knew she still cared for Kane. This whole situation was a mess! Turning back to the elevators, he punched the call button harder than necessary, waiting impatiently for the car to arrive.
Kane stood outside her door, more than a little nervous. Concern for her welfare, wondering about his reception, all crowded in on him at once. Unable to put it off any longer, Kane took a long steadying breath, then knocked softly on the door.
"Come in!" Kali called out hoarsely. Her throat was still sore from the attack. She was thankful that Chris had arrived when he had, and shuddered to think what would have happened if he hadn't showed up when he had.
"You up for a visit?" Kane asked, smiling crookedly, as he peered around the door!
"Yes! Please come in!" Kali was glad to see him. She watched, smiling as he entered the room and taking the chair next to the bed.
"So...they got the bastard in custody?" Kane felt the familiar surge of anger at the man that DARED to hurt this woman.
"Yes! Chris arrived just minutes after the guy struck me from behind. He was a serial rapist. The police had been trying to catch him for some time now." Kali told him.
Kali had a black eye, and the entire right side of her face was badly bruised. A heavy bandage was wrapped around her head, as well. Kane noticed her hands nervously picked at her slightly protruding belly.
"The baby alright?" Kane managed to ask passed the lump in his throat, his voice husky with emotion.
A faint blush colored her cheeks, as she looked away, suddenly unsure of this visit.
"Yes! The doctor said she was fine!" Kali finally met Kane's concerned eyes. "I, ahm, I took your advise you know. I broke it off with Taker. It's over between us." Her voice soft. Kane thought he heard a hint of regret as well as pain.
"I'm glad! He was nothing but trouble for you!" Kane didn't have the right to tell her who she could and could not see, but Taker didn't care about her or any other woman.
Kali didn't say anything for a while, her thoughts drifting to the last few months. They naturally turned to Judy...her best friend. "How's Judy?"
Kane didn't know how to tell her. Now it was his turn to look away.
"Kane? Has something happened to Judy?" Fear for her friend's safety threatened to choke Kali.
"She's disappeared! J.R. said she needed some time off because one of the twins was sick. But rumor has it, Taker threatened to take the twins on the grounds she's unfit." Kane grew thoughtful, his eyes staring off into space. "I think she's running!" He finally said.
Kali was at first surprised, then angry, then thoughtful as well. Suddenly, she burst out laughing! "That's EXACTLY what she's done!" She continued to chuckle at the thought, eyes bright with humor.
"What do you know!" Kane asked, eyes narrowed suspiciously.
"Her first reaction would be to take the twins and run! Judy doesn't take well to threats, so she's more than a little angry....she's PISSED! Next, after she's had time to get over her initial anger, she will want revenge. I wouldn't be surprised if she's back by now! You remember the first night we all met?" She asked, meeting his hazel eyes. At his nod, she continued. "Well...she was looking for some "pay-back" for the shit her husband put her through. I suspect, that's what she's doing now! Right now, I feel sorry for Taker! He has no idea what she's capable of when she's pissed!" A huge wicked grin curved her lips as Kali thought about her friend.
The longer she thought about it, the funnier it struck her!She couldn't prevent the soft chuckle that escaped her. Gradually, the chuckle became full-blown laughter! By the time she was able to gain control of it, tears were streaming down her face.
Kane was at first confused, then amazed, then trying his best not to laugh as well. Kane found himself almost feeling sorry for Taker.
"Should I warn him?" Kane asked as he vainly tried to stifle the laughter threatening to erupt again.
"Why? I think he's got it commin, don't you?" She said, giggling like a teen-ager!
Kane threw back his head and laughed heartily. "Kali...you may be right!" They laughed together at Taker's expense. All in all, it was a VERY comfortable visit.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Judy walked toward her dressing room with a purpose. J.R. had told her when he picked her up at the airport, that everything was ready. Again, he tried to talk her in to staying, and again, she refused. Now as she dressed for the match, she thought about what she had in store for Taker. A deliciously wicked smile curved her lips as she thought about his reaction.

Chapter 48! Kaliegh~

“I think I’ll go back to the hotel for a while so you can get some rest. “ Kane said when he saw Kali’s eyes beginning to grow heavy. “ Visiting hours are almost over and I’m kind of tired myself. I’ll stop back in the morning before my flight leaves.”

Kane stared into her eyes as he spoke, thinking about the numerous occasions that he’d come so close to losing her forever. But each time, by some miracle, her life had been spared. He was so thankful for that and on this particular occasion, as much as he hated to admit it, Kane knew that he would forever be indebted to Chris for being there.

That one single thought of Chris, brought Kane a fresh wave of doubt despite the pleasant he and Kali had just had. All that he’d put Kali through still nagged heavy on his mind. Chris was the one who’d been there with Kali through all of it. What exactly was it that Kali felt for Chris? That one question was forever on Kane’s mind. Why had Chris been on his way to her apartment? Had he called her first wanting to talk? Or had it been Kali who had asked him over so that they could talk? All kinds of doubt and questions filled Kane’s mind.

Kane snapped out of his deep thought when he felt Kali slip her hand into his. “Thanks for coming. I really do appreciate it.” She told him, her voice filled with sincerity as she sat up.

“Believe me, its no trouble at all. I just wish it could have been under different circumstances. Although I’ve seen you in the hospital so many times, I can never get used to the heartbreak that I feel each time.” Kane told her, his hazel eyes showing how honest he was being.

Kali fell silent as she contemplated his words. She was touched by what he’d just said and that he’d even shown up at the hospital. But that still didn’t let him off of the hook for what he’d done to her. If there was any chance at all for them in the future, they would have to talk…a lot. And even then, that didn’t guarantee anything.

Her thoughts turned to Chris. There was no question in her mind how he felt for her. He’d told her several times of his love for her. Kali knew that she had some kind of feelings for Chris other than friendship, but until she was given a chance to explore those feelings, she wouldn’t know just how deep they went.

“Well, I better get going.” Kali heard Kane say, suddenly bringing her out of her thoughts. Kane looked at her curiously, wondering what her thoughts were.

“Okay. I’ll see you in the morning then?” She asked as she tried to hide a yawn behind her hand. Another one immediately followed the first one as Kane stood to leave. Her eyes closed, but she forced them open again.

“You got it.” Kali smiled slightly at his answer as she closed her eyes again, unable to keep them open any longer.

Kane’s expression became soft, his eyes misty as he watched her breathing even out and she fell deep asleep. Unable to stop himself, he reached out and touched her cheek, letting his fingers linger on the soft skin momentarily. His heart jumped and then raced off when she moaned softly and nestled her face further into his hand. Sighing deeply, Kane reluctantly pulled away, then turned and left.

When Kali opened her eyes again a short time later, she felt like she’d been sleeping forever, although no more than an hour had passed.

“Chris.” She said softly, trying to get his attention when her eyes touched on him sitting in the chair beside the bed. He held his head in his hands so she really couldn’t tell if he was awake or sleeping.

“Chris.” She tried again when she failed to get an answer from him the first time. She smiled as she watched him lift his head and look at her with tired eyes.

“When did you get back?”

“Not too long ago. I didn’t want to wake you. You were sleeping so good.” Chris answered as he ran his hand through his hair and then over his face in an effort to get his thoughts collected.

“Uh…I’m going back on the road. My flight leaves in a couple of hours, but I wanted to say ‘good-bye’.”

Kali studied Chris intently, not missing the sadness and resignation in his voice. She wondered why he was leaving now when he’d said earlier that he’d be there at least one more day. What had happened to change his mind since she had just spoken to him before Kane arrived, Suddenly it dawned on her. Was he feeling threatened by Kane’s presence?

“What’s going on?” She asked finally, even though she thought that she had the answer.

“Kal…” Chris trailed off with a sigh as he raked his fingers through his hair once again and looked away. It was several minutes before he turned back in her direction and was able to continue.

“Seeing Kane here tonight made me realize what you two had…What you still have. So…knowing how he feels for you, and how you feel for him, I think it would be best for me to just step away. There’s no way that I…” He was cut off before he could finish.

“Chris…” Kali stopped, taking a deep breath to calm herself. She felt as nervous as a teenager about to receive her first kiss. She knew that it was now or never though. She knew that she wasn’t going to get another chance. Kali began speaking in a rush before she lost her courage, not knowing if her words were making any sense or not.

“Yes, I still care for Kane although sometimes I have to ask myself why after all that he’s put me through. But… When I think of him and I being together again, I just can’t picture it. Too much has happened that I just can’t get past. Or maybe its what I feel for you that’s holding me back. I know that there is something there, Chris. I’ve just never had a chance to find out how deep my feelings for you are. I know that you feel something for me too.” Kali finished quietly as her blue eyes held his, waiting for his response.

Chris was silent for a long time. He wanted nothing more than to take her into his arms and show her the extent of his feelings for her. He’d dreamed so many times of hearing her say those words, holding her in his arms, savoring the sweet scent of her skin as he kissed her lips. But that was all that it was…A dream. That he was certain of and had resigned himself to the fact that he would never experience such bliss.

“Kal, I think its just best that we don’t even go there.” He finally found his voice and said. He was still denying to himself that he’d just heard her say that she felt something for him. It seemed too good to be true.

“How do you know what is best for me when I’m not so certain myself. But the one thing that I am certain of is that…I…I love you.” There. She finally admitted what she’d known deep down for some time.

Chris sat there dumbfounded. He honestly did not know what to say or how to react. He never in a million years thought that he would hear her say those words and when she finally did, all he could do was sit there like an idiot. It didn’t help that so many questions raced through his mind. One in particular nagged at him.

“What about Kane?” He hated to ask, but at the same time he had to know. He still wasn’t completely convinced that it was him over Kane that she chose to be with.

Kali sighed deeply, not really wanting to get into it right at that moment, but also knowing that it would have to be discussed sooner or later. Better sooner than later.

“Once upon a time what Kane and I had was very special. It was the best thing that had ever happened to me. But…when he chose to be unfaithful to me…repeatedly, that was all lost. Yes, we could try to work things out, but I can’t ever see us making it through. I honestly don’t believe that I could ever trust him again, even in light of the fact that I know how truly sorry he is. I still can’t bring myself to forgive him for the baby that I lost, even though I know that it really wasn’t directly his fault. He’ll always have a place in my heart, but I’m not in love with Kane anymore. There’s someone else that has taken my heart…And that person is you.” Kali told Chris as she met his blue eyes with her own. He could easily see just how honest she was being with him. Before Chris had a chance to say anything, she spoke again.

“Come here.” She said, motioning to the spot beside her on the bed. Chris was on his feet in seconds and just as quickly he was beside her. His heart pounded furiously in his chest just from being so close to her.

“Kiss me.” Kali demanded as she wrapped her arms around his neck, leaning her body close to his as she tipped her head back. She watched the look of astonishment that crossed his handsome features. For a split second he just sat there in a stunned daze before his arms went around her, pulling her even tighter to him.

The instant their lips came together, every last nerve in both of their bodies was on fire. Chris groaned deeply as he brought her closer to him. The already heated kiss deepened even further, seeming to go on forever before they came apart again. Both Kali and Chris were breathless as they sat there staring at each other, not able to take their eyes off of the other.

Chris carefully cradled her bruised face in his hands. “Maybe I won’t be taking that flight out after all.” He said with a smile that proved how genuinely happy and in love that he was with her.

“I was hoping that you’d say that.” Kali whispered softly, barely getting the words out before his lips covered hers again in a gentle kiss. When Chris moved to pull back, Kali held on to him, not willing to let it end so quickly. Soon they became so lost within each other that they were unaware of anything that was going on except the amazing thing that was happening between them.

*****

Judy was just on her way out of her dressing room when there was a knock on the door. She walked over and pulled it open, surprised to find Lightning standing on the other side alone.

“Where’s Kane?” She asked, knowing that they were supposed to be having a tag team match in just a few minutes.

“He left early this morning to see about his ex-wife.” He told her, figuring that Judy was already aware that Kali had been attacked.

Judy gave him a confused look. “I thought that he wasn’t going there until this weekend.”

“Well, he wanted to see for himself that he was all right.

Judy’s bewilderment as to what Lighting was talking about became even more apparent after hearing his previous statement. “He wanted to make sure that she was all right?” She repeated as concern for her one time friend flooded her mind.

Lightning didn’t miss her baffled expression and began to wonder she even knew. “Didn’t anyone tell you?”

“Tell me what? Damn it, what is going on now?” She demanded to know, her voice steadily rising with worry.

“She was attacked…um, last night, I think it was. The man, who is a serial rapist broke into her apartment while she was sleeping. Luckily, Chris was on his way there and arrived just moments after. She took a few good blows to her head, but it would have been much worse if Chris hadn’t gotten there when he did. Now all she’ll have is a bad headache for a few days.”

“She’s going to be okay though?” Judy asked uncertainly even though Lighting had just told her that Kali would be fine.

“She has the worst luck of anyone that I’ve ever seen. I swear she must be jinxed.” Judy commented, a nervous laugh escaping her as she waited for Lightning’s answer.

“I just talked to Kane a little while ago. Both she and her baby are fine.”

Judy took a shocked step back. “Baby?” She whispered hoarsely, not able to believe what she had just heard.

Lightning did not miss the utter surprise in Judy’s eyes and in the expression on her face. “I thought that you knew.” He said quietly, feeling bad that he’d brought the subject up. Had he known that she wasn’t aware of it, he would have not mentioned it.

“No.” Judy finally managed to choke out that one single word out after several moments of silence.

“I knew that she was seeing Taker, but I didn’t know… Is it his?” She asked suddenly, hoping that Lightning would tell her that Kali’s baby belonged to anyone but Taker.

“Far as I know…” Judy cut him off before he could finish.

“Damn him!” She hissed furiously under her breath. The only anger that Judy felt was towards Taker. He knew that she was vulnerable when he started things up with her, and he’d taken advantage of her. Now he was bringing another child into the world that he probably couldn’t care less about and would only use as a pawn in his effort to make Kali’s life miserable…Much the same as he was doing to her.

“I’m sorry, Judy. We can talk about this later if you want. We have to get to the ring now.” Lightning said, breaking into her thoughts.

Judy sighed, reluctantly agreeing to go although going out in front of thousands of people was the absolute last thing she felt like doing. “Who’s your opponent tonight then?” She questioned, unable to remember if he’d told her or not.

“Tak—“ Lightning didn’t get a chance to get the word out before Judy shoved past him and headed towards the arena where she could hear the beginning of Lightning’s music being played. She only had one thought on her mind. And that was revenge.

Chapter 49!~Judy

Lightening and Judy made their way down to the ring...or rather he was following in her wake, since he was having a time catching up to her. Never had Light seen her so angry. Judy was down right PISSED!

Since this was the last show for her, her contract officially ending at midnight, J.R. had pretty much agreed to let her settle all scores tonight! And that meant the one against Trish Stratus!

Judy was in the ring before Light even reached it! She motioned for a microphone, ignoring Lightning's confused expression! Her angry pacing back and forth testified to the degree of her temper! Her eyes blazing a cold, clear blue, Light wondered what she was going to do! He had a sinking feeling that not only was Taker going to pay for his misdeeds, but Light would too! He stood outside the ring near the steps, watching along with every one else in the arena.

Stopping in the center of the ring, microphone in hand, Judy looked back up the ramp, in the direction of all the dressing rooms. She was dressed to "Valet" not wrestle. Wearing leather pants, high heel boots, and a sheer blouse over a black bra, Judy was not dressed in the proper attire for what she had in mind to do!

"This match was scheduled to be a singles match between Lightening and Taker! But Trish...you BITCH! If you are even HALF the woman that you are a SLUT, you will meet me here in this ring in a mixed tag match...that is, if you're woman enough to face me!" Judy's voice was husky, low and completely devoid of emotion!

Lightening dropped his head, shaking it in disbelief. He knew this was going to be an 'interesting' twenty minutes! He could only wonder what was going through Taker's mind right now!

At that moment, Trish walked out to the stage. Lightening climbed up on the ring apron not really knowing what to expect. Trish, with microphone in hand, looked out over the crowd, listening to the cheers and boo's from the fans. Finally, turning her attention back to Judy standing in the center of the ring!

"I can't believe that YOU are actually CHALLENGING ME to a fight! I accept....but GIRL, you are gonna get you ass KICKED!" She promised. Dropping the microphone, Trish started down the ramp, then stopped when Taker's music started.

Making his way out with that slow, steady stride he was known for, Taker also had a microphone in hand. He stopped near Trish.

"Since it takes two to agree to a mixed match, I'll agree just to see this little lady beat yo skank ass!" Taker drawled, his eyes cold as he stared at the woman in the middle of the ring, looking all defiant at them. With that said, he threw down the microphone as he and Trish took off running down the ramp!

Lightening had come to stand next to Judy when Taker made his appearance. In a matter of seconds, they tied up with their opponents.

Taker didn't pull any punches as he laid into Lightening. He pounded on the man unmercifully, for sleeping with Judy! He beat the smaller man back into a corner. With lightening fast reflexes, Taker punched him in the ribs, and face, busting his lip and nose.

Judy grabbed a double handful of bleached blonde hair, throwing Trish half way across the ring. She, too, pulled no punches, and was rewarded with the sight of the Trash's right eye swelling shut. Earl Hebner finally got the two huge men out of the ring, allowing the women to officially begin this unexpected match.

Trish tried valiantly to get to Taker to tag out. With his long reach, she just DID manage to tag, just as Judy grabbed the back of Trish's shirt. But now, Judy found herself facing a very angry Taker...all 300 plus pounds of him! Judy's eyes widened slightly as she put on the brakes and began to back up! A malicious smile curved his sexy lips, as he advanced on her! He was going to enjoy this!

Reaching out, catching her by the throat, he lifted her up for a choke-slam! As she was thrown to the canvas, all the breath was knocked from her. Judy thought every bone in her body might be broken. With a sarcastic smirk, he negligently placed a foot on her midsection for the pin. Lightening speared the big man, knocking him half way across the ring. Judy managed to crawl to the corner, as Lightening took it to Taker!

They battled back and forth for a good ten minutes. Finally, Taker had the smaller man down for the pin near his and Trish's corner. Trish yelled at Taker to tag her in, wanting to rub Judy's nose in it, by pinning her partner. Smirking, Taker agreed to the tag, letting Trish pin Lightening. Before Earl could count to three, Trish had been thrown off with authority. As quick as his name, Lightening made the tag, allowing Judy to legally get involved.

Intending to send Trish into the ropes, Trish reversed it, sending Judy into them instead. Taker's arm reached out instinctively, catching Judy. As they stared into each others eyes momentarily, Taker grabbed her to him kissing her thoroughly.

Jerking away from his grip, Judy backed away from him. Seeing her chance for a win, Trish dropped and rolled Judy up, pinning her. Judy kicked out, then threw Trish over the top rope, hitting the floor hard. Taker entered the ring, grabbing Judy's arm, whirling her around to face him. Again, he kissed her hard!

Eyes blazing angrily, Judy put an end to the kiss. She kneed him in the groin with authority! Taker went down to his knees like a ton of bricks. Seeing her chance, Judy performed a perfectly executed Bulldog on the big man, then rolled him over to get the pin.

Feeling sick, fighting the urge to throw up, Taker could do nothing to prevent the pin. White hot pain throbbed in his balls. All he could do was roll around on the mat, holding his abused crotch.

Quickly Judy rolled out of the ring, then she and Lightening made their way to the top of the ramp. Stopping there, Judy picked up one of the microphones. Facing the ring, she watched as Taker slowly got to his feet, staring after them.

"Tonight I showed the world my opinion of you, Taker, and Trash Stratus! I have no use for either of you! I think you two deserve each other! This part of my life is finished! It's over! I wash my hands of this part of my life! I quit, and hope to NEVER see you or that trailer park Trash in the ring with you, ever again!" Judy said huskily. She had been drowned out by the fans booing when she announced she was quitting, but she refused to be swayed.

As she dropped the microphone and headed toward the back, Lightening saw tears fill her eyes. He also saw a hint of longing in her expressive blue eyes. He knew she was thinking about Taker.

"You sure you want to do this?" He asked watching her closely, as they walked to their dressing rooms.

"Yes! I'm sure! I want to get on with my life and put this part behind me! I miss my kids and it's time for me to go to them! But...if you're ever up in my neck of the woods, I'll be mad if you don't stop in and visit!" She said with a smile.

"Will do! And Judy....Good luck!" Lightening said a little sadly. Leaning down, he placed a light kiss on her cheek, then went off to his own dressing room.

Judy went inside to collect her bags, not even taking the time to change. All she had left to do was go back to the hotel and pick up the rest of her stuff. She had a flight to catch in just over two hours.

After putting on her jacket, Judy opened the door just as Taker was about to open it from the other side. His eyes burned with green fire! To say he was PISSED, would be an understatement!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kane arrived at the hospital bright and early the next morning! He hadn't slept well, suspecting a major disappointment coming. He had a feeling Kali was about to tell him how she felt about Chris.
"Morning, Babe! How do you feel?" Kane asked, as he took the chair by the bed.
Smiling happily in greeting, her eyes sparkling brightly, "Isn't it a Beautiful morning!"
Kane's heart sank ever so slightly, but he hoped Chris made her happy! If not....well, Chris would have to answer to him! By his very absence, Kane knew it was coming!
"Yes, it is! What is it you want to tell me, Kal?" Kane asked softly, wanting to get this over with.
Kali dropped her eyes, nervously chewing her bottom lip. Might as well get on with it! "Kane...I love Chris! I'm hoping that he and I can make some sort of life together!"
"I thought as much! If there's ever anything I can do...all you have to do is call! I had hoped we could work things out, but...all I've ever wanted was for you to be happy! Maybe Chris will make you happy!" Kane got up to leave, then stopped just at the door! "You tell Chris for me, that he's an extremely lucky man!" Then he left the room. He had to swallow several times past the lump in his throat.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Judy pulled up in front of her cabin. Brent had taken the twins home the day after she left to re-join the tour. She needed some time to herself to get it all out of her system!

After going inside, she took a bottle of water out of the fridge, then went out on the deck, sitting down in one of the Rattan chairs. Breathing a deep sigh of satisfaction, she knew only one thing would have made this homecoming better...if Brent and the twins had been here!

The sun was already beginning to set. Although it had been warm, once the sun went down, so would the temperature! Already she felt a slight chill. Taking a drink from the water bottle, she thought about what lay ahead of her. In just a few hours she would be home for good! No more road trips, no more hectic schedules, no more hurried flights!

Finally ready to continue her drive home, Judy drained the bottle, went in and threw it away. Making sure to lock up, Judy left the cabin, got in the car and headed back to the interstate! She never noticed the black truck backed into the woods!

Chapter 50! Kaliegh~

Not long after Kane left the hospital, Chris returned. He’d stayed there with her through the night but had gone back to his hotel to shower and change clothes when Kali had said that she needed some time alone to speak with Kane.

As he entered her room, he found Kali with her eyes closed, a soft smile touching her lips as she tenderly rubbed her belly. When she heard the door open, Kali opened her eyes as she turned her head and smiled at him.

“She’s really active right now.” Kali commented, her voice gentle. “Do you want to feel?”

Chris looked unsure as he walked to the bed and sat down beside her. But as Kali took hold of his hand and placed it on her belly, all of his reservations fell away. She placed her hand over his as she watched his eyes fill with wonder.

“Oh my God,” Chris breathed in awe. “I felt a kick.”

“Actually that was a punch. She’s in a breech position which means that her head is up here,” Kali squeezed his hand in indication to the area that she was speaking of. “and her feet are down there dancing on my bladder. I hope she turns soon.” As uncomfortable as she was with the baby in that position, she had never been happier in quite a long time. Not only with the baby, but Chris was doing a tremendous wonder for her mood as well.

Chris stared into her eyes as he felt another strong movement. “That is so… amazing. You… are amazing.”

Kali had become lost in his captivating blue eyes. She sighed contentedly as Chris took hold of her hand and helped her into a sitting position. His arms circled around her slight form as he pulled her closer to him. Leaning forward, his lips touched against hers in a feathery light kiss. Tenderly caressing her soft cheek, Chris pulled back, gazing lovingly into her eyes. He was completely mesmerized as was she.

“I ran into your doctor on the way up here. He said that if everything keeps going well you’ll be able to be released tomorrow afternoon.” Chris finally found his voice after several long moments.

“Yes! I can not wait to get out of here. If I never see another hospital again, it’ll be too soon. Unfortunately it seems that I have an infinity for these damn places though.”

“I was wondering what you’re going to do. Are you going back to your apartment?” Chris asked.

A fearful expression crossed Kali’s face. “No! I can’t go back there.” She paused for a moment as she fell into deep thought. “I really haven’t given it much thought. I guess I’ll just crash at a hotel until I can get it figured out.”

Chris remained silent. He had a solution. He’d been contemplating it the night before and that morning, but had yet to mention it to her. It was something that he definitely wanted. But he didn’t want her to think that he was trying to rush her, pushing her into something that she might not be ready for. He just wanted to be near her always and know that she would be safe.

Chris took hold of her hand as he levelly met her eyes. “Kal, I have something that I need to talk to you about. But first I want you to understand that you can take all of the time that you need to think about it. And if in the end, you decide that its not the right thing for you to do, I understand completely.”

Kali eyed him curiously; wondering what Chris had on his mind. “Okay.” She waited for him to continue.

Chris took a deep breath to calm his racing heart. He was more nervous than he could ever remember being. “What would you think of moving to Winnipeg with me?” He forced the words out in a rush before he lost what little courage he’d built up.

Chris watched the display of emotions that crossed her beautiful face. Surprise, disbelief, uncertainty, hope… all and so much more.

His shoulders dropped in relief as he slowly let out the breath that he hadn’t been aware of holding when a faint smile began to curve her lips. The hint of happiness that flared brighter in her eyes with each passing second told Chris that she’d already made her decision.

******

Judy glanced up into her rearview mirror as she switched on her blinker and turned her car into one of the hotels that lined a busy, built up section of business along the highway just on the out side of the upcoming city.

She had just a little over a hundred miles left to travel before she would be home. But she was unable to go any further. She’d caught her self nodding off a couple of times in the past half-hour and thought it best to stop and get a few hours of sleep before continuing home. Judy was exhausted both physically and emotionally.

While driving, she’d noticed the vehicle that followed behind her. It never slowed down or sped up. Always kept a steady speed and distance behind her. She could tell it was a truck, but in the dark of the night, it was impossible to see the make or color. It never occurred to her to be concerned until she saw it also following her into the hotel parking lot.

Still watching in the mirror, her eyes narrowed furiously as she instantly recognized that black truck. Even with the windows tinted dark, Judy knew full well who was behind the wheel of that truck.

Judy quickly located a parking space. Ignoring her car’s whining pretests, she slammed the transmission into park and jumped out of the car before it had even come to a complete stop.

With hands planted firmly on her hips. She stalked over to where the black truck had taken up temporary residence in the spot beside her car. Not having the patients to wait for him to open the door, she yanked it open herself.

*****

Lightning’s head jerked around in surprise when he heard the door to the dressing room suddenly fly open and slam against the wall with a resounding thud. He watched as Kane stalked in and hurled his bag across the room where it bounced off the wall and fell to the floor. He noticed all of the emotion’s lighting Kane’s eyes, but remained silent. When Kane was ready to talk, he would.

Running a hand through his long hair and then over his face, Kane finally broke the thick silence that hung in the room. “She’s in love with Jericho.” Kane stated flatly. Tiredly he walked over to a chair and settled his large frame down in it. Kane groaned softly as he let his body relax for the first time since Kali had told him of her feelings for Chris. He leaned his head on the back of the chair as he felt a slight amount of tenseness leave his muscles.

“So you’re just going to give up?” Lightning questioned. He could see the defeat that Kane felt in his eyes and in the droop of his shoulders. It was so unlike Kane to just give up on anything with out a hell of a fight first.

Kane sighed heavily as he mulled over Light’s question. “She’s been through so much. I just want her to be happy…That’s all that I ever wanted for Kali was to be happy. And if Jericho is the one that makes her happy, then yes, I guess I am giving up.”

“You still love her?” Lightning asked although he knew full well that Kane was still very much in love with his ex-wife. Kane didn’t have to tell him. His eyes told him that answer.

“Yeah, I do. More than anything.” Kane admitted with out hesitation as he again berated himself for being such a fool and putting Kali through the hell that he did. The last thing he’d ever wanted was to hurt her the way he did. Yet, he allowed that very thing to happen. Not only had he broken their vows of marriage, but her trust of him, and finally her love for him.

“Then don’t give up! Kane, if you love that woman as much as you say you do, then fight for her. She loved you once… She can love you again.” Lightning could immediately see the effect that his words were having on Kane.

Kane jumped up to his feet, suddenly feeling more energized than he had in a long time. “You’re right. I may lose her in the end, but I’m not going down with out one hell of a fight.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chapter 51!~Judy!
"Just what the HELL do you think you're doing?" She yelled as she jerked open the truck door, eyes blazing!
Taker merely stared at her, an almost bored expression on his handsome face. Deciding to let her stew in her anger, he didn't answer right away.
"WELL? Are you going to tell me why you are following me?" Judy demanded, hands on hips, glaring angrily up at the man as he slid out of the big truck!
"I'm going to see my children! I DO have that right!" Taker drawled, meeting her eyes levelly.
"But you've been following me!" She accused the big man leaning negligently against the black truck.
"No, I just happen to be going in the same direction as you!" He said calmly, a hint of humor twinkling in his emerald eyes.
This only seemed to infuriate her all the more!
"Then why did you pull off here when I did, instead of going on!" She asked suspiciously.
"Same reason as you! I'm tired!" His tone implying he might of been talking to an idiot rather than an intelligent woman!
Judy very nearly stomped her foot in frustration, as she walked toward the office. Seems like fate continued to throw them together at the oddest times. Unbeknownst to her, Taker had called the motel when he knew which one she was stopping at, and talked the clerk into agreeing to his little deception. The desk clerk would be telling her there was only one room available! Taker had promised the man a hundred dollars for his trouble, telling the clerk that Judy was pitching a temper tantrum over a little blonde she caught him with, and all Taker was trying to do was make her see reason!
"What do you mean, you have only one room available! That lot is nearly empty!" She glared at the little man behind the counter! Taker strolled up behind her grinning, winking at the clerk.
Glancing from the huge man to the extremely angry woman, the little man was beginning to wonder if he had agreed to hastily.
"There's a convention in town! I'm sorry but all the motels and hotels are full. Only reason we have THAT room is because we had a cancellation." He said reasonably, glancing once again at the big man, and receiving his nod of approval. The balding little clerk was glad he didn't have to deal with this woman on a full time basis!
Judy nearly spit on her anger. Yet she knew she couldn't go any further tonight. If she had known she would have been stuck in that awful traffic jam for nearly two hours, she would have stayed at the cabin. But she hadn't! Now...she suspected Taker was behind this some how!
"ALRIGHT! I'll take it!" She said through clenched teeth! She had chewed on her bottom lip till it was nearly bleeding!
The desk clerk gave her the key card as she signed the registry, glancing up at Taker with a bit of pity for the big man! Taker passed the man two hundred dollar bills folded together, paying for the room.
"Since there's only one room, I'll pay since we'll have to share!" He said smoothly. The desk clerk gave back the change for one of the bills and watched as the started toward the door!
"OH HELL NO YOU'RE NOT! You can sleep in your truck for all I care!" She stopped and spun around, glaring at the man behind her!
"What are you afraid of Babe? Afraid you won't be able to keep your hands off me?" He said softly, leering at her.
"OH!" She sputtered indignity, unable to say anymore! Judy turned abruptly on her heels, storming out of the office, leaving both men grinning wickedly after her!
"Women! Can't live with 'em or without 'em!" Taker said, a grin that spelled pure mischief curving his lips as he followed her out!
Taker stopped outside the office and watched as she pulled out of the parking space, heading around to the back of the building! He took his own sweet time following, pulling into the vacant spot beside hers. She met him standing in the center of the room wearing a cold smile!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Kali was unsure about moving to Canada. She loved Chris, but she couldn't prevent the memories of Kane from coming back to haunt her ! Sighing, Kali gently rubbed her protruding belly. The baby was extremely active tonight, causing her some discomfort! That was another reason for her indecision. She only had about 10-12 more weeks! Should she move now? Or should she stay until the baby came?

"Kal, I just want us to be together!" He said, holding her close.

He had taken her by her apartment to pack what she would need, then brought her back to his hotel. They had ordered room service, not wanting to be around any one else. And now, just the simple act of holding her close in the big bed, not only made her feel safe and secure, but more loved than she thought possible. Snuggling even closer, Kali drifted off in a peaceful sleep!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Taker stood just inside the huge room, wondering just exactly what she was up to now! His green eyes narrowed suspiciously as he watched her closely! And she was certainly worth looking at when her temper was up! Her high color attested to her mood, despite the smile she wore!
Hands planted firmly on her hips, the look in her eyes, hell, her whole demeanor bespoke just how angry she actually was!
"Just what the HELL do you think is going to happen here? Well, what ever you have in mind....forget it!!!!!" She said softly, still smiling up at him.
"I really don't know what you're talking about! I told you I just happened to be on my way to see the kids!" He said innocently, maybe a little too innocently for her liking!
Still smiling that same smile, Judy snatched the spread off the bed, grabbed a pillow and threw them at him. Pointing to the floor, she informed him coldly, that was his bed! And with that said, she grabbed her bag heading to the bathroom.
A slow wicked grin spread across his handsome face. His eyes darkened as desire spread like wildfire through his veins. If memory served him correctly, she would be in there for a while. Picking up the phone, he rang the front desk and told the clerk exactly what he wanted, promising a generous tip if it was delivered within thirty minutes. After being reassured it would be done as he wished, Taker hung up the phone and threw the pillow back on the bed, kicking the spread out of the way.
While he waited, Taker loosened his hair, shaking it free, ass he sat down on the bed. Doing a little channel surfing, he stopped at a skin flick that happened to be on one of the channels. He smiled even broader, as he thought about DOING those very same things to the woman in the shower. A soft chuckle escaped as he heard her muffled curses directed at him. It would take him long, to have her temperature up for another reason. A few minutes later, a knock sounded at the door. His delivery had arrived!
Judy turned off the shower only when the water had run cold! Only then did she get out! Her temper had cooled right along with the water! Right now, all she wanted was a good nights sleep! After wrapping a thick towel around her slim form, she took another one from the rack and briskly dried her hair. Running a comb through the thick auburn curls, Judy was about ready to fall out with exhaustion. The hot shower having worked it's magic on her. It wasn't until she opened the door and saw the amused look on Taker's face, that she realized she had on one of his t-shirts...the one he left behind on his last visit....the one she slept in nearly every night!
Gritting her teeth in light of his humor, Judy walked over to the bed dropping her bag down beside it, wishing she could kick her OWN ass! Ignoring the big man as best she could, Judy went about getting ready for bed...setting the clock, and what have you.
Taker had taken the liberty of pouring two flutes of the chilled champagne, adding a huge strawberry to each. Coming up behind her, he wrapped his strong arms around her, pushing his hips against her softly rounded bottom, leaving no doubt as to what his desires were.
Going rigid in his arms, Judy couldn't prevent the rush of lust she felt for this man. Desire raced though her, setting body on fire! Closing her eyes, she had to swallow hard to try and gain some control of her senses! GOD! His scent was everywhere! She was completely surrounded by his smell!
"Have a glass of wine with me!" His husky whisper came a mere fraction away from her ear! She could feel him breathe...almost feel the touch of his lips one her neck.
Taking one of the delicate glasses, Judy moved away from him, putting as much distance between them as the confines of the room would allow! She was afraid for her own piece of mind, to look at him. She could still SMELL him, for GOD'S Sake!
Draining half the glass in one gulp, Judy finally looked at the man she knew in her heart, that she loved above all others! In spite of all he had done to her, she loved him!
"This doesn't change anything!" She said softly, glancing at him, refusing to meet those amazing emerald eyes. Even to her own ears, her voice sound uncertain and filled with longing!
Taker never said a word. He'd heard what he wanted to hear in her voice. With that slow steady stride he was known for, he walked over to her. She was his, and damn if he wasn't going to have what was his! He also knew he had a lot to make up for....a lot of HURT to make up for!
Judy watched, almost fearfully, as he sat his glass down, and took hers from numb fingers. As he pulled her against his rock hard body, Judy also knew that she had been fooling herself thinking she could stand up against their mutual desire! As his mouth sealed his possession of her, she felt herself melt against him, lost to all rational thought! Her exhaustion forgotten!
