His parents passed on while the 10 children were very young, so all were raised by different members of the family.
Dad was raised by an aunt. They were farmers and very poor.
He married Jennie, my mother. They moved to N.J. to
seek work during the depression.
Dad was a truck driver most of his life, but his
heart was on the farm. He loved tractors, plowing
the
earth and being outside for the most part.
He always said he was a "Jack of all trades and
master of none", and that he was!
He was a very happy go lucky guy, loved people,
cookies of any kind, country music and boy did he
love to dance.
He could outdance almost everyone.
He was thought highly of by all. My dad was a very
special man!
Nita's dad GEORGE JACKSON was born Febuary 1,
1913 - died April 4, 1994. He was born in N.J. but lived in Pa. most of his life.
Nita's mom JENNIE (WOODRUFF) JACKSON was born January 31, 1916 in Pa. - died January 1, 1984.
Born to a farmer, there were 6 children and the family was very poor. Her dad was killed while the children were young. She graduated from Mansfield University with a teaching degree, but never got to teach, as she married dad. A very hard worker, she did diner work most of her life.
Mom was a very tiny woman with a very strong will.
They had 3 children, Nita, Jerry and Dolores. Mom made very good lemon pie and raisin filled cookies. She loved her family and adored dad.
Larry's dad LAWRENCE ZICKLER was born October
31, 1912 -
died 1985.
He was born in, N.Y., but soon lived in N.J. They were a family of 4 siblings and his mother.
Lawrence's father died when the children were young, and his mother raised the children on her own.
He was a truck driver most of his life and raised Larry, his son, from the age of 5 along with grandma.
Larry was his only child.
Larry's mother ELSIE (HOGLAN) ZICKLER, born 1920 - died 1986. She lived in Indiana most of her life. Larry and his mother took many train rides when Larry was very young, so that is probably why he loves trains to this day. Elsie's father was a train engineer. She had one sister named Edith.
Set in her ways. Laundry "only" on Monday. If you miss your laundry that day, you wait to the following week. Supper at 5:00. "Not there", you do not eat! Shopping on Friday.
She had a strict schedule, yet a very caring, loving
woman,
lived into her 90's and strong to the end. She made
homemade soup, mostly pea. She loved gardening and
flowers. She used to watch the birds from her bedroom
window.
