INTERSTATE LUMBER COMPANY

The Interstate Lumber Company formally known as the Columbus Lumber Company was a logging
railroad that ran between Steens, Mississippi and Fernbank, Alabama on the Southern Railway.
At Fernbank there was a wye and a locomotive servicing facility. The lumber mill was located at Steens.
The C&G shops would do locomotive repair work when needed, and a
C&G locomotive would be loaned while the #1 was in the Columbus shops.
A section of the old roadbed that lead to the mill can still be seen in the North West part of Steens.
