Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy made 106 films, 104
of which have been saved.
The Babes in Toyland Tent
has access to about 70 of
them.
Most
of the films are two
reelers, that is, they run about 20 minutes.
We usually run two
two-reelers at meetings.
The
most memorable film is
probably The
Music Box, in which they struggle to
carry a piano up a
tremendously long flight of steps to a
house at the top.
Babes
in
Toyland, also known as March of the Wooden Soldiers,
is a feature length film.
It is set in mythical
Toyland with all the Mother
Goose characters. It is a musical.
The Boys play Stannie
Dee and Ollie Dum. It is often regarded as a Christmas
movie.
Many
of the shorts
(two-reelers) are silent. The St. Louis Theater Organ Society
occasionally joins us to
provide music for a silent film showing.
In reality, the silents
were never silent.
