~The Creation of Faeries~

(how they came to be)

Arwen

In a burst of laughter and
starlight one lovely night a tiny,
beautiful creature named Arwen stepped
from her silver-blue cocoon. Finding
that she was neither human nor butterfly
she called herself a faerie. She also
found that she had certain magical
powers. For this reason she was called
goddess and princess.
At first Princess Arwen was very
happy. She could have anything her
small heart desired. She drank of the
sweetest nectar served in tiny flower
goblets. And ate only the choicest and
sweetest berries. She could command the
rain and the sunshine at whim and
cause the stars to crown her head. But soon the
princess, Arwen, realized that these
things were not enough to make her happy. She
was very lonely and bitterly regretted not
having any of her own kind to talk to. Her
loneliness grew and grew until she became
nearly desperate. Until one day she sat
down on a leaf and began to cry. The great
queen of the goddesses, Galadriel took
pity on her. She said, "It's not good for
the small faerie princess to be so lonesome.
I will send her a message on the wind telling
her what to do. Then she will have
some friends of her own kind."
As Arwen wept the wind began to rustle the
leaves. She looked up as the
small breath of wind kissed her cheek, drying
her tears. Surprised, Arwen listened as
the wind whispered to her.
That night the wee faerie princess fluttered
to the magical Emerald Forest.
And as she came to the clearing of Fluttersong
she saw a magical sparkling pool. As
she had been bidden to do she waited
until it was nearly dawn then made her way to
the magical pool. She gazed at her reflection
and said the words: rosse na ve
quendelie! Arwen held her breath. At
first nothing happened. Then the morning
dew began to fall. As the tiny diamond
droplets landed on the leaves of the trees of
the emerald forest they changed into tiny faeries.
Arwen watched with delight. Then
the voice of the Queen Goddess came in the
wind saying, "Princess Arwen, I have
given you faeries of your own kind.
Now they are your charge and you must take
care of them, and rule them wisely."
From then on Emerald Forest was called
Faerie Forest. And to this day
Arwen and her beloved faeries live there in
happiness and peace.
