I Was a Witness

I was a witness Yet nobody knew What I had seen Or what I had heard. I was a witness Yet I did not come forth And a man walks free To commit his crimes again. I was a witness, Threatened by those who knew, Those who bear false witness Against the one who is wrong. I was a witness, But now I sit here, Wishing I had told them, Even if it meant my life. I was a witness And now a man walks free, And another injustice Is served by this society. I was a witness, Nobody knew what I knew, I didn't come forth, The man walks free. I was a witness, Threatened for my life. But I sit here. And the man walks free.
