I KNOW WHY THE CAGED BIRD SINGS

In this memoir I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings, Maya Angelou takes us back to memory lane, but not all is good. As a young girl who was always teased and ridiculed by others. Maya has lived through the trauma of being attacked and raped. Because of this she became a mute later on in life.
I was very saddened by this book and some of the experiences Marguerite went through as a child. My experiences as a child weren't as bad as hers but her story made me reminisce about my past tragedies.
When I was very young our family had a beautiful golden retriever named Duke. Everyone loved that dog. But then when I was about seven years old, Duke became very sick and he had to be put to sleep. My parents tried to spare my feelings and told me that he was just going away for a few days. But I knew what was really going on. I didn't really cry I guess because I still didn't understand the meaning of death. But it still effected me in some way.
Overall I really liked the book and all the aspects of it. Maya's story gave me more insight on other people's tragedies.
