SCENIC TEXAS

THE ALAMO

/user/alamo4.gif

My family and I have visited the Alamo many
times, and I am still awe struck and filled
with reverence each times we visit it.

The Alamo, was one of the most remembered
battle sites of the Texas' War for independence.

189 men fought against, and held off over
2000 Mexican soldiers for many days.  All
189 men in the Alamo died, and more than

650 Mexican soldiers were killed.
The Mexican Army was led by Gen. Santa
Anna, and the Texicans were led by

Col. William Barrett Travis.

This is a view of the front of the Alamo. See
the detailing on the pillars, and above, where
there are still signs of cannon shots.

Thousands of people visit the Alamo every
year, and there are still Texas soldiers
buried within the walls of the Alamo.

This is a water well close to the barracks,
used by the Texican forces holed up in
the Alamo.

This is one of the cannons, restored, that
was used by the Texas forces during the
siege of the Alamo.
