 2003 -  The Georges Simenon Year>

2003, declared Georges Simenon year in the French-speaking part of Belgium, will see many special events taking place from April until the end of the year.
From play adaptations to an impressive exhibition in Liège (his hometown), Belgium will celebrate one of her greatest modern writers, world famous for his Maigret series, but also a highly praised writer for his more literary works.
The Belgian monetary authority has even issued a limited edition of a 10-euro coin with a portrait of Simenon.

Belgian and French television will broadcast many documentaries and interviews of the author, besides a series of films based on his works.
The publishing world is participating, mainly in France of course, but also elsewhere, by first re-publishing his novels and by adding a number of interesting essays and biographical analysis to the long list of critical works.
Two volumes of works by Geoges Simenon will be published in the luxury series of La Pléiade by Gallimard, France, the literary pantheon of French and foreign authors.
A real literary recognition !

We have reviewed a small pocketbook, a handy essay by David Carter, recently published in the UK in 2003, which will certainly be of help to those who are not very familiar with Simenon’s work.

Interesting introduction to the complexity of Simenon's life and its influence on his works.
Not a literary essay about his work, but a solid documented account about Simenon's itinerary
