Album Notes:
"By Heart" is a duet featuring vocalist Laura Creamer. "On The Edge" features Martin Tillmann on the cello.

Philippine versions of this CD contain an exclusive bonus track, "If."

In the United States, three versions of this disc were produced, with the differences being the tracks "If You Believe" and "By Heart":

On the first release, "If You Believe" is a true piano solo — there are no drums and keyboards and the track begins with the melody. The radio version, appears on the second and third releases of the album, has drum and keyboard parts added, and a different beginning and end. The initial version plays 2:48; the radio version runs 2:59.

The first two releases of the CD contain a slower, bare-bones version of the track "By Heart" — it's just Jim and Laura Creamer and some strings. The third release of the CD contains the radio version of the track, a re-recording with a somewhat faster tempo. For the radio version, the piano and vocal tracks were rerecorded and drum, keyboard and guitar parts were over-dubbed. The original version plays 4:07; the radio version runs 3:45. Another way to tell which version you have: the original track begins with four quarter notes on the piano; the radio version begins immediately with the vocal part.

The version of "In A Lover's Eyes" included on this album is a true piano solo. The version included on Jim's "Ballads" album — currently available only in Asia — is a vocal number featuring singer Ariel Rivera.

"By Heart" was Jim's first album to place on Billboard Magazine's album charts. It spent four weeks on the Hot 200 album chart, peaking at position 187.

11. Valentine (3:16)
12. Sweet Dreams (2:36)
13. Hero's Dream (2:32)

Album Notes:
Three tracks on this CD are duets. "Valentine" features the vocals of country star Martina McBride; Boney James plays soprano saxophone on "You Never Know;" and cellist Martin Tillmann performs on "Secret Love."

The song "Picture This" first appeared on the 1996 compilation "Sampler '96," a version that is a true piano solo. The title track of this CD is a rerecording, much faster in tempo, with added strings.

The track "Dream Come True" is a slightly different version from the one that appears on Jim's "The Gift" CD. The version on the latter CD is a re-recorded holiday version, featuring Norbert Stachel on soprano saxophone. The seasonal version of the song has a slightly different name, too. It's "Dreams Come True" (plural 'dream,' not singular).

"Sweet Dreams" is solo-piano version of "Starbright," which appears on "The Gift" album with the vocals of Kenny Loggins.

Hero's Dream is listed on the album as a bonus track. NBC used the song as the theme for its coverage of the 1996 Summer Olympics. The song was issued as a radio single in August 1996, but was not commercially available until it was released on this album.

The Canadian version of the album (Windham Hill 11302) features an exclusive bonus track: "Your Love" (3:46). Country singer Michelle Wright performs the lead vocals. The song was first released in the United States on the Windham Hill compilation entitled "Visions Of Love."

Three other tracks are new versions of songs Jim previously recorded. While "Joy To The World" appeared on the Windham Hill compilation "A Winter's Solstice V," the version on "The Gift" is a completely new recording. "Dreams Come True" is a re-recorded holiday version of the track on "Picture This", which among other things, includes a new soprano saxophone part by Norbert Stachel. And an piano-solo version of "Starbright" is on the "Picture This" album, but under a different name, "Sweet Dreams."

Album Notes:
This is not a typical Jim Brickman album or Windham Hill compilation. This CD is a collection of mostly vocal love songs, produced by Jim Brickman. There is just one instrumental track on the set. Jim, himself, only performs on a few of the tracks.

The version of "After All These Years" included on this album is slightly different than the radio version. On the radio version — found on the promo CD "Missing Moments — Jim Brickman plays the piano. On this album, pianist Howard Pfeifer accompanies singer Anne Cochran.

Several of the tracks on this collection can be found on other albums. In some cases, however, the versions are different:

  • "One Heart One Love" appears on the Phil Perry album of the same name. The version on Phil Perry's album contains extra vocal overdubs on the song introduction and extra electronic instrumentation at the end of the song.
  • "Getting Over You" by Janis Ian appears on her album entitled "Hunger." The track included on "Visions Of Love" is the acoustical version. The version on Ian's album features extra instrumentation, including a flute part.
