April 18, 2003 - One pair of pants to rule them all...

Oh yeah, by the way, on Tuesday I was in the UPS centre and some guy called my phone and started singing happy birthday to me. So I thought it was Steve and I'm like, "Hey freak, what's up?" ANyways, we got cut off, and he kept calling back and we kept on getting cut off - and it was a caller ID blocked number. So i'm really confused! Cuz I called Steve and he said it wasn't him - sooooo, if you called me and you happen to be reading this - I didn't hang up on you and call me back!

Oh my gosh, PAUSE. Historical and life changing moment... 3:27pm - I just ordered the SEXIEST desk chair!!! It is beautiful. Not as beautiful as some of the other ones I've seen.. eg. at Krug, but as beautiful as my budget will allow!

"Hey, how YOU doin'??"

Plus, I just had my second driving lesson today. It was sooooo fun! I learned right hand and left hand turns, 3 point turn and hill parking. YAY FOR TURNING RIGHT! And I'm finally getting this clutch and accelerator thing smooth. Ahh, watch out world!

This shows the severe depleation of brain cells from Marianne and I...

How I long thee!

Ode to the Lime Chip Crumbs... (by Shar)
Oh dear lime chip crumbs, where did you go?
So crispy and yellow like the golden corn you are made of
your beauty reminds one of the rolling plains
the corn fields from whence you did not come
for even though they call you corn chips
you are made of wheat and packed with fibre.. not corn.
The green, sprinkled almost carelessly over your tender surface
that, notwithstanding my appetite...
for the fresh, and tantalizing lime *zing*
that you bring with you, fresh from out of the plastic bag.
Dominion. You are a beautiful grocery store.
Come back to me, my beautiful lime chips
which have been withered down to depleated masses of crumbs.
Come back, so that I might have one last taste.
Though this bag has finished, we shall meet again.
In the fourth, beautiful and radiant aisle of Dominion.

As we’re not on the subject of eating habits, why don’t I start that conversation up? Selina and I had pizza for dinner last night. YUM. Cheese lovers with mushrooms from Pizza Hut. We got into this discussion that has been broached many times whenever anyone sees me eat either toast or pizza. How do you eat your pizza? Is it so odd that I eat the crust first and work my way to the tip? And with toast, I eat all the way around the bread – crust first, same as with pizza. I get teased. Can you believe that? Imbeciles and uncouth pizza destroyers. It’s called saving the best for last – the best part of the pizza is the very middle of the whole pizza, where the most cheese has been deposited, and the best part of a piece of margarined toast is the middle where the spread has soaked in. True? True. You eat chicken from the outside in right? And you’d eat an apple from the outside in too yeah? I won’t tease Marianne about eating her pizza from the tip to the crust because she likes the crust best. Although when I eat KFC chicken I like the skin, even though it’s really fattening and greasy – so that’s the only circumstance in which I’ll eat from the inside out.

Parsons said something about how Easter isn’t that great of a holiday because you don’t get a tree. See, for Christmas, I was going to get a seasonal bush, which Selina and I could spraypaint depending on the holiday. So for Halloween it’d be black and orange with a big pumpkin on the top, for Christmas it would be bright pink with disco lights and a John Travolta figurine on top, and for Easter, it could be a big bunny tree – we could have stuck those headband ears on top and big feet underneath! Yeah, she didn’t really go for that idea. In her precise words, she said, “are you MAD?” Now I know that I have strayed, but the point is that there aren’t Halloween trees either, are there now? At least Easter has bunnies. Although how bunnies came from eggs… I haven’t figured that one out yet. It reminds me of my friend Lauren’s old bunny Fred who died under her house a few years ago. They thought he just ran away until this incredibly stench pervaded the house. Poor Fred.

So Selina and I got into this huge conversation today about God and existential topics today. It was really interesting. See, this is my view on things. I believe in a something – whether it takes on a physical form or is simply an essence, it doesn’t matter. But most people are out there looking for proof of the existence of a God. I have proof… I look around and I see everything that is around me. It’s slightly egotistical to believe that we had absolutely no help and slightly naïve to think that the whole universe was simply a coincidence of an infinite number of events that seem to work together like a machine. The word ‘religion’ is latin and translates roughly to ‘re-join’ or ‘reconnect’. This is ironic somewhat, because if anything, religion has split people apart. Selina’s brother Buzzy was like, why do there have to be rules and regulations? And I said, because otherwise it would be complete and utter anarchy… it would be going back to Chaos. And he’s like, but that’s beautiful… which I actually agreed with once I thought about it. I mean, order in disorder and all of that. But it’s this process of naming things and of speaking that gets in the way of everything – imagine if we all communicated by ESP. You would know exactly what anyone was thinking at any point in time. There would be complete honesty, which is the only way to face problems and be able to solve them.

Also, what if you looked at religious divisions (eg. denominations) like we look at culture and race? I’m Chinese, and as the Chinese culture has evolved, there are certain intrinsic values and morals that are taught in terms of conduct and social behavior. Even though I’ve been raised in Canada and Australia, I still hold those values, because they’ve been instilled in me. So should we stop naming cultures and differentiating when it is a part of you no matter where you go? There’s a book, Looking for Alibrandi by Melina Marchetta that I read when I was younger and it talks about this girl Josie who is trying to come to terms with being Italian in an Australian environment and drawing a balance between the two. She said, “Like religion, culture is nailed into you so deep you can’t escape it. No matter how far you run.” If I don’t believe in religious definitions, then why do I still believe in culture? This girl was over at our apartment the other day and she was like, “where is God when people are dying? And why do bad things happen to good people?” I’m not sure if I hold this God or this transcendent being responsible. I mean, for every force in the world there is a counterforce, so how should God be the exception if the universe is to make sense? It’s like feng shui where there are the good winds and ill winds and the placement of the good omens bring fortune. Ahh, I don’t know – but that’s the best part...
