USE OF SUNLIGHT AND SHADOW FOR YOUR GARDEN

The further north you live,the longer the shadows;the farther south,the shorter.You can approximate the length of the shadows in your area by reference to these two extremes and use the information in designing your garden.Walls and hedges can be sited to block or trap the sun's heat;beds and shrubs can be placed so they receive some light each day.Sun-loving annuals like marigolds belong in beds that face south or west,where the sun is strongest.Broad-leaved evergreens like holly and rhododendrons do best in shady northern and eastern exposures because they cannot tolerate too much sun
