There are things known, and there are things unknown, and in between are...
"When the doors of perception are cleansed man will see things as they truly are: infinite."
     The group consisted of
                 (from right):
Jim Morrison:  lead singer
   Ray Manzarek:  keyboardist
      Robbie Krieger:  guitarist
         John Densmore:  drummer
Created in 1965 on a beach in California by Jim Morrison and Ray Manzarek, this "million dollar rock band" ended up getting into more than they had bargained for.  "Drugs, sex, and rock and roll" took on a new meaning with the formation of this band, especially with the sexual electricity exuded by their lead singer.  But the stuff these guys created while droppin' acid and whatnot went on to shock and electrify their audience...not to mention sell millions of albums, ie my favorite...
Morrison Hotel, released in February of 1970.  Not a huge Doors album - only spent 12 week on the top 40 chart and didn't have any hit singles, but I just like it, especially Peace Frog and Ship of Fools.
More Doors' albums...
There are a TON of books out there about the Doors.  I've only read through some of them, namely:
Angels Dance and Angels Die
Strange Days
The New Creatures
No One Here Gets Out Alive
but the ones that I have read have been excellent and have enlightened me greatly as to the Doors and the members (mostly, Jim, I have to admit.)  But if you want to see an expanded list, go
HERE.
To check out a bunch of Doors' links, as in, more than you could check out in your LIFETIME (k, no I'm exaggeratin' just a li'l bit), click HERE.
Alright, I can't resist...here's my
Tribute to Jim
Jim Morrison died on July 3, 1971, in a bathtub of a Parisian Hotel.  Circumstances of his death were unidentified, but it was certainly due in part to the consumption of large quantities of liquor and drugs, and also from becoming a symbol for that which he despised: being labeled as a superstar, as well as partically from exhaustion due to crazy and erotic performaces.  But Jim had to be crazy and erotic, because he wanted to be a pioneer musician, exploring the bounds of society and trying to break on through the cage society had imprinted on our emotions.  Ideally, Jim worked for the personal revolution, a realization of spirit of others.  He was the shaman, and we, members of his tribe, looked to him for spiritual cleansing and healing.  Still today, Jim Morrison lives on in his music and poetry, and we greatly mourn the loss of our Great American Poet.  Keep on rockin', Mojo.
