To The Ultimate End to
Old Home Week 1999
in Madison, New Hampshire

Back in August of 1999 the town of Madison in New Hampshire found a unique solution to thier problem of lack of space in the town offices. They decided to refurbish and remodel the old town hall/meeting house that had been built over 100 yrs ago. To do this they needed to relocate the building to the new location where there would be enough parking and could be made handicap accesible. To this end they had the building MOVED to the new location in one piece. The following photos are a partial record of that move. As old home week, which is a celebration of the town and community is in the beginning of August and this took place just a couple of weeks later, the locals joked that this was the 2nd part of the old home week parade with the town hall being the winner in the "float" division. To accompish this feat required the joint cooperation of the local police, electric company, phone company, cable company and at the last minute the help of a local tree trimmer. The old town hall is a LARGE building in a rural setting with narrow roads. The building got hung up on softshoulders and telephone wires more than a couple of times and took 3 times as long as they figured but it was AMAZING to watch. Please enjoy these photos of this major event in our little town.
