Are you in a book discussion group?

Book discussion groups are a great way to meet new people while enjoying some of the best literature out there. I've belonged to one for a year. We meet in members' homes with the host choosing the book for the next month. Some of the titles we've read to date include Invisible Life by E. Lynn Harris; When Death Comes Stealing by Valarie Wilson Wesley; Urban Romance by Nelson George; Ugly Ways by Tina McElroy Ansa; Monster: The Autobiography of an L.A. Gang Member by Sanyika Shakur; Devil in a Blue Dress by Walter Mosley; and The Wedding by Dorothy West.

You can place a classified ad to find members or just get a group of friends, co-workers, neighbors or relatives together. Looking for a place to meet? Public libraries generally have meeting rooms open to the public. Or maybe there's a bookstore, barber shop or beauty salon willing to let you gather for a couple of hours.

All you need to get started are a few friends interested in starting a group and agreement on a first title or the next title for your existing group. I've put together FELICIA MASON'S BOOK TALK, a guide for book discussion groups. It contains quesitons about titles I've written that can get your discussion off to a great start.
