This Guideline for Municipalities in the Design of Quality Urban Place is the offspring of discussions that were held at http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/polemicsonarchitecture during the summer of 1999. What started as, generally, a complaint list about the current state of urban design in the United States has evolved (hopefully) into the GMDQUP, which is intended to be primarily a catalogue of images and descriptions of existing and proposed urban places around the world. We endeavor to build this catalogue because we realize that complaining alone in the end accomplishes nothing, and we wish instead to contribute something useful and positive to the current tide of opinion regarding architecture and urban design.
