MONDAY STRINGS (Sue Kirby) 

CARLISLE YOUTH CHOIR (Helen Snowball) 

A first string orchestra for students up to Grade 2. Violin, viola, cello and double bass players welcome.  No audition required 

The CYC is well known for its high standards and frequent performances. Entry is by audition and all young people aged 9 years and above are welcome to apply.

BRASS TACKS (Veronica Morgan)

This is a brass group of Intermediate Standard (Grades 1 - 5). "In addition to playing various styles of written music we improvise, play musical games and compose our own pieces". Members also get a chance to conduct the band or play solos - but only if they want to! (Associate Group)

PERCUSSION CLUB(Richard James) 

Tuition on Orchestral Percussion - timpani, bass drum, snare drum, cymbals, glockenspiel, xylophone etc. is available subject to demand. Please contact the Music Centre

MUSIC CENTRE WIND BAND (Tom Howe) 

DANCE BAND (Chris Perrin) 

This is for those woodwind and brass players who are making progress beyond the elementary stages. No audition required - minimum standard expected is Grade 3. 

Newly formed in April 1996 to recreate the 'Big Band Sound'. Intermediate students and adult players of Trumpet, Trombone, Saxophone welcome (not suitable for beginners) 

 7.45 -9.15

MUSIC MAKERS (Roy Beeby)

 Whatever your age or ability, if you play an orchestral or band instrument come and join the 'Music Makers'. This group explores various styles from 'classical ' to 'pop' and gives performances from time to time in various venues.

On Wednesday evenings the Music Centre is available for hire for private concerts, rehearsals etc. (subject to availability).  Lettings may also be possible during the day (Monday - Friday). For further information contact the Music Centre.

CARLISLE YOUTH CONCERT BAND (Linda Deacon) 

This very popular band is well known in the area for it's high standards. Entry is by audition (minimum standard approximately Grade 5).

WOODWIND ENSEMBLE (Karen Bulman) 

A second string orchestra for students Grades 2-4. Violin, viola, cello and double bass players welcome. No audition required 

The Ensemble is for all young players in the lower grades. Come and experience the joy of playing with others and discover how much fun it can be

CARLISLE YOUTH ORCHESTRA

The Carlisle Youth Orchestra is a full symphony orchestra, which performs in at least two concerts every season. The minimum standard required is usually Grade 5 (although exceptions are sometimes made). Members are drawn from all over North Cumbria and students from West Cumbria are also encouraged to apply. Membership Fees 1999/2000
 
 

£60 per year for first group, first family member

£45  per year for first group, subsequent family members 

£15 per year for each additional group

£15 per year for Associate Membership 

There are limited assisted places available on application to the Heads of Centre.


Registration

Registration for all groups will take place on Monday 20th and Friday 24th September between 5.00 and 7.00 in the Music Centre. Existing members may register by post, confirming address, telephone and group details.
 

Associate Groups

Do you belong to a music group or ensemble that might benefit from rehearsing in a venue ready equipped with music stands and tuned pianos? If so, we would be pleased to discuss 'Associate' status with you.  Contact either Sue or Tom at the Centre.
