2000....
The Year Of The Metal Dragon

February 5, 2000 - January 23, 2001

As we approach the millennium change and new year of the Dragon in 2000, we find ourselves bombarded by prophets of doom preaching apocalypse. Believers and skeptics alike are studying the subject of eschatology (the branch of theology concerned with final events or the end of the world.)

A myriad of computer experts and religious leaders warn of coming collapse. On the other hand, some hold fast to the belief that self-styled prophets who announce the impending end of the world, are nothing but charlatans propagating a scam to empty our pockets.

Then, there are the moderates who won’t commit either way insisting: "No one knows WHAT will really happen".

What does Chinese astrology have to say about the year 2000? Swimming against the current, it predicts a better future for mankind. According to this 5,000 year old art, our planet should progress quite nicely in the next two years, which correspond to the years of the ‘lucky’ Metal Dragon, and the ‘wise’ Metal Snake. As a matter-of-fact, these two years are thought to be better than average in the twelve year cycle that is the Chinese zodiacal system.

Naturally, there will be earthquakes here and there, floods, fires, tornadoes, wars, and so on during the next two years but, according to the Chinese astral configurations, there is nothing that would indicate an apocalypse. Any problems are less likely to happen on 1-1-2000 of this ‘detached’ Rabbit/cat year, as on or after the new year of the ‘unpredictable’ Dragon beginning on 2-5-2000. It is at that time when "Fixes" or "patches" put into place in the hope of circumventing problems, MAY cause problems of their own.

On February 5th, 2000 We enter the year of the Metal Dragon. Unlike the other animals of the Chinese zodiac, the Dragon is a mythical creature, and the sign of good luck and vital health. Unlike the frightening Dragon of Western mythology, Chinese Dragons are benevolent creatures who live in the heavens and command the wind, mist, rain, thunder and lightning.

Dragon years are traditionally filled with Pageantry, Festivals and elaborate Celebrations. A year of potential extravagance, grandiose ambitions and enterprises which soar to the forefront with drama. Dragon years can be exhausting and unpredictable, bringing both spectacular victories and bitter defeats. A bi-polar year of sharp ups and downs. Due to the mythical nature of the Dragon successes can be fleeting or illusion only.

The essence of Dragon years is ' unpredictability’, and the culminating point in this coming Metal Dragon year will be Autumn. The Yin force of mid-autumn blends with the strong Yang of the Dragon, life becomes more temperate - more balanced at this time. The year 2000 will be influenced by the element of Metal. The nature and power of Metal is to delineate and to define. This element adds rigidity to an individual sign or a particular year. The Metal element represents clarity, purity and precision. Metal years create structure, & bring matters to the surface. Metal Dragon years are traditionally stormy, outspoken, and brutally candid.

The 'solitary' element of Metal, intensifies the need for privacy during this coming year, and the 'lone-wolf-style' of problem solving. To be totally effective, we must learn which battles to lose in order to win our wars. The Metal Dragon likes to mix in the best circles and usually has an intimate, but very loyal group of friends. This Dragon year is particularly shrewd for business matters, as the Metal element gives strong monetary instincts into the year 2000.

Dragon years are traditionally: Outspoken, Active, Sentimental, Enthusiastic, Lucky, Intuitive, Idealistic, Shrewd, Tenacious, Healthy, Influential, Vital, Generous, Spirited, Captivating, Artistic, Admirable, Successful and Autonomous. They are also: Agitated, Stubborn, Willful, Demanding, Opinionated, Brutally Honest, Other-worldly, Impetuous, Loud-mouthed, Easily Infatuated or Judgmental

The Golden Dragon
Most revered amongst the dragons' legendary heroes is the golden dragon. His scales and wings are the color of gold, and, although he does not belong to any of the three great elements {earth, water and fire}, by nature he embraces all three, and he is the dragon possessed of the greatest beauty. He is unique, pure and perfect. Neither fire, nor air nor water are strangers to him. Only one man is his friend and only three knights have ever set eyes on him.
To become acquainted with this strange being we must consult the Book of the Golden Dragon, one of the sacred books of dragon culture. 'The Golden Dragon has never taken part in any aggressive action. Unsullied by any flaw, he is pure and without blemish. He is the Guardian. He defends the Enchanted Castle where a pure-hearted knight devotedly guards the Sacred Chalice. The Sacred Chalice is the font of peace, nature and life. It was concealed from the eyes of humans because they were not worthy of it. Only three knights succeeded in attaining it, and only one, who was free from sin, became its King. Before the astonished gaze of his two companions, the pure-hearted knight and the Sacred Chalice were plucked from Earth with the promise that they would be returned when the dwellers of this world were worthy of beholding the chalice and drinking from it. 'The Golden Dragon was summoned to carry the

Guardian knight to the Enchanted Castle, in the heart of the Hidden Wood, and to watch over him until the Sacred Chalice returns to Earth. Then, all the Dragons will fly to meet him, carrying on their backs pure men, and all will pay homage to the Bearer of the Chalice and to the Golden Dragon. And then all Nature will be cured of its wounds. Fear and hatred will disappear. Virgins and dragons will be friends, and the era of Peace will dawn, shrouded in the golden radiance of the Sacred Chalice and in the sweetness of its life-giving Light.' This myth has much in common with the legend of the Holy Grail and of Sir Galahad, which could indicate that dragons and poets were cast in the same mold, or that the Holy Grail and the knights really did exist.

A vital, fire-breathing, larger than life expeience began today (Feb/05/2000)

THE YEAR OF THE DRAGON!!!!

In Chinese astrological terms, is a very special and important year. Babies born in during the year are considered dragon babies, and are expected to be ferociously high achievers.

Out of all 12 signs, the dragon is considered to be the most creative, and the best dreamer of all.

The combination of the turn of the millennium and the Year of the Dragon has made this an especially dramatic, exciting time for the Chinese community.

Paul Ng (an expert in Chinese astrology) predicts this is to be a thunderous year roaring through world weather systems. He sees lots of thunderstorms, heavy rains and flooding coming, as well as volcano eruptions and earthquakes.

Ng also expects slow economic growth in the Canadian economy (so what else is new?), interest rates will stay low, prime rates to fluctuate between 6-8%, and our Canadian dollar to hover around the 68 - 71¢ mark (U.S.)

Elsewhere in the world, Ng sees econimic improvements in the Middle East in spite of continuing political instability. He also feels that financial markets will continue to fluctuate in big margins, but things look good in the last quarter of the year. Looks like gold and metal will continue to suffer throughout the Year of the Dragon for those of you that are interested.

2001 Year of the Golden Snake (White Snake, Snake Sleeping in Winter) The Snake heralds a wonderful energy for New Millennium humane initiatives, creativity and morale values. If one lives from the Spirit, demonstrating integrity, virtue and imagination, this year will be a marvel! Human kind as a whole can take amazing strides to make this a better world for all of us. The key is benevolent intent and rolling up our sleeves and digging in. We will tend to be more humane, more just and kind. Cultivate diligence, wisdom and justice to reap the most benefits from the Serpent energy. In Love, the Snake can cause some wandering hearts. You must be diligent if you wish your current Love to remain intact. The wandering eye will affect many of us. Easy to fall into an affair, so beware! Temptations and opportunities will abound, for the wavering. The green eyed monster is also very much alive in Snake Years. Beware of jealousy! Hard work in the career area will be rewarded this year. Jobs will be easier to find and land. More money will flow into our hands, and we will want to spend it on comfort and leisure. To a point, go ahead. Just make sure the basics are covered too - a very important part of sustained comfort. For the creative, Snake Years are especially rewarding. This is a time of artistic pursuits, pleasure, beauty and enlightenment. A reflective and introspective year, wonderful for self-development initiatives and philosophical understanding. Turn your attention to inner growth and the spiritual world in a creative way to experience amazing results!

2002 Year of the Black Horse

On February 12th prepare to greet the Black Horse of the element Water. In Chinese astrology the element water is associated with the colour black. The Horse corresponds to the Western sign of Gemini and has many of the same characteristics. Both have lots of energy and are prone to be in motion, active. A keen mind and a desire to be in the midst of society are other attributes the two share, as is the troublesome trait of impatience or restlessness. Horses, like Gemini born individuals, are full of contradictions. Though the Horse, like Gemini, is always Yang or Masculine, the Water or Black Horse has special characteristics that distinguish him from his brothers. Water flows making this Horse even more adaptable or pliable than Horses of other elements. While this gives him the ability to handle many shifting circumstances and situations, it also makes him more indecisive. If you were born between February 4th 1942 and January 24th 1943, you hold the distinction of being the only Water Horse of the 20th century! Horses of other elements were born in the years listed below. There will be two Water Horse years in the 21st century; this year, 2002 and 60 years from now in 2060.

In 2003, it comes on February 1st. The festivities begin 22 days prior to the New Year date and continue for 15 days afterward.

2003 Year of the Goat (Black Sheep)

This year we celebrate the Year of the Goat. With this gentle Sign guiding most of our 2003, we can expect a time of harmony, tranquility and understanding. The Goat encourages us to be more easygoing and relaxed; for the next year, we'll pledge to live our lives in a quiet, peaceful manner. We'll move slower than usual, taking time to smell the proverbial roses, but we'll also feel less stressed about petty or minor details. We'll spend more time with family and friends, and our kind, compassionate demeanor ensures that we'll make pleasant new connections as well. Because the Goat is so artistic, we'll spend much of the year pursuing creative endeavors. We'll also indulge our many whims and fantasies -- as long as we get our most important tasks done, we shouldn't feel guilty about catering to our whimsical side. Our imaginations will be given free rein, so we'll be able to come up with innovative plans and solutions. Although we may seem disorganized or scatterbrained at times, we'll actually have everything in order -- it just may take others awhile to see the method to our madness! Although we'll need some space to dream, reflect and create in 2003, we're sure to take advantage of our boundless artistic talents and find the serenity and peace that we seek.

Here are the 12 signs and the predictions on the effects for each one during this the Year of the Dragon

DRAGON:1928,1940,1952,1964,1976,1988,2000

Dragons tend to be self confident on the surface and a little nervous underneath. A typical dragon is adventurous, likes trying something new, enjoys comparisons with others, and enjoys showing off. A dragon can be persistent and very stubborn, and has a nature others find untouchable.

Dragons are accident-prone this year, so they should drive carefully. Romance will be enjoyable, but they shouldn't take it seriously. It doesn't look like a good year for making money(avoid gambling), but work life should be stable and especially good for those in marketing, sales and the entertainment business.

SNAKE: 1929,1941,1953,1965,1977,1989

Snakes are swift of thought and reaction. They look at a situation and understand all aspects of it immediately. They have a strong aesthetic sense and love beauty in all forms. They worry too much, like everything to be secure and tend to hide money. Snakes persevere and make good leaders. They are often good-looking.

It’s a good money-making year for snakes, especially those with their own businesses, and a good year to start a new business or project. Romance is hot for snakes in 2000. But they should watch what they say because they could easily become embroiled in controversy. It’s an especially lucky year for those born in 1953 and 1965.

HORSE: 1930,1942,1954,1966,1978,1990

The horse tends to be impatient and wants everything done right away without worrying about the nitty gritty. Horses tend to be well-liked, highly sociable and outgoing, bright, energetic and easy to love. Horses hide their worries and often hide their true opinions of others, not wanting to hurt anyone’s feelings. They are generous to a fault: If you need to borrow money, ask a horse.

Those born in horse years have a stable year ahead at work, with income sources steady. But romance looks like a downer all this year, especially for those born in 1966. The horses health problem may include bleeding problems in 2000. Horse people born in 1954 will attract much admiration from those around them.

SHEEP:1931,1943,1955,1967,1979,1991

Sheep are good money managers and make good treasurers or accountants. Sheep hate losing and will go to great lengths to win. They are deep people and don’t show their feelings. Male sheep like to control money and female sheep like to spend it. They may tend toward vanity.

A mobile year is predicted for sheep, with out-of-town work going well and producing good money, but backstabbing and controversy for those who stay put. It’s a relatively healthy year for sheep, but accidents are a problem, especially for those born in 1943. Sheep should drive especially carefully and beware of sharp objects. Romance may be fun this year for sheep, but not serious. Sheep born in 1955 should particularly avoid being a guarantor for other people, which is likely to lead to loss of money and a friend.

MONKEY:1932,1944,1956,1968,1980, 1992

The monkey is a dreamer with wonderful imagination and intuition. They have a way of feeling others feelings, are especially interesting people and can make excellent artists. Monkeys don’t find decision-making easy, but they are stubborn and once a decision is made, they won’t change.

It’s going to be a busy year for monkeys and a particularly good year for those holding public office or in service industries. Romance looks good in 2000 but it is not to be a big money making year. Health problems are likely to centre on the digestive system. It’s a year of good results for monkeys turning 8 this year. For those born in 1956, relationships look volatile.

ROOSTER: 1933, 1945,1957, 1969,1981,1993

Hens and roosters love good food and tend to be spendthrifts. Don’t pick a fight with them as they are argumentative and become terribly unreasonable when angered. They make good lawyers, but not accountants because of a lack of thoroughness in their approach. Hens and roosters think they’re the smartest of all. They are kind-hearted and love to help others.

They can put last years griefs behind them; 2000 is a time of good changes and a much luckier year for hens and roosters. Income improves and romance is looking good. They may still be exhausted from last year’s overwork, but they can relax and exercise to charge their batteries for the good things coming. Hens and roosters born in 1969 have a particularly busy and positive year, romantically speaking. Those born in 1957 should stay away from gambling or guaranteeing loans.

DOG:1934,1946,1958,1970,1982,1994

Dogs can be self centred and are sensitive to what others think of them. They’re loyal. They’re concerned with appearance, tending to look good. They are often attracted to a career on the stage. Once a dog becomes determined to get a job done, it’s as good as done because dogs are steady workers.

It’s a year when dogs need to be careful in all areas of life. They tend to be accident-prone or liable to illness, so they should take it easy on the road and get a health check-up. They shouldn’t rock the boat in personal relationships. They need to be cautious and conservative in financial investments. It’s not a good year for dog to quit a job. Dogs would be wise to have legal documents double-checked. They can get through 2000 fine if they take care.

BOAR:1935,1947,1959,1971,1983,1995

Boars tend to be self-confident and extremely sentimental. They rarely go broke because they are good at controlling money. They tend to be poetic and can succeed in writing careers. When boars get angry, however, they are very destructive.

There may be family problems, but money matters look good for boars this year, especially for self-employed boars and those dealing with the stock market. It’s a healthier year than the last two, but there’s instability in the area of romance. Boars born in 1947 need to balance their lives by paying more attention to family, but they have awesome earning power in the year 2000. Boars born in 1971 can learn a lot from older people this year and need to take more care of their health than other boars do now.

RAT:1924,1936,1948,1960,1972,1984,1996

The rat is good with finances and is often materialistic. They tend to be perfectionists and are highly demanding and calculating. A rat can be a tough boss; they worry about their relationships and are highly romantic. They are especially gifted with the ability to make themselves happy again instead of brooding after difficulties.

It’s a profitable year for rats, who are sharp and quick-thinking in 2000. Minor accidents threaten, but there’s a good shot at a promotion at work. Rats are full of good ideas this year. Single rats in serious relationships are advised to marry or they may face interference from a third party. Rats born in 1948 will see a number of false starts in the romance area. Financially, rats will have their ups and downs, but over all, it’s a year when they can make good money. Rats born in 1960 have an especially flat year romantically, but see improvements in the work world.

OX:1925,1937,1949,1961,1973,1985,1997

When the ox makes up his mind, it takes an axe to change it. Oxen are stubborn and can nag until they get what they want. This is the most unforgiving of all signs. They tend to be absent minded , like to mind their own business and don’t like to mess around in other people’s affairs. The ox concentrates on what’s important and doesn’t waste time on the less important. The ox has a high degree of perserverance and, like a locomotive, rushes in the desired direction until arriving at the destination.

The ox has been having difficulties, but this is a lucky year and a time to break free of problems. Oxen still face controversies, but others will help. Aside from burnout, it looks like a year of good health. Success is likely to come from far away. Those who work in the entertainment field or in financial investments have an especially easy year of it. Romance looks like an unfortunate area this year, except for the 1961 born ox, who should have a colourful, romantic year.

TIGER: 1926, 1938,1950,1962,1974,1986,1998

Tigers are bright and outgoing and love to look good, so they can do well in show business or public relations. They have little patience and can be moody, but are charming and good at reading others’s minds. The tiger is an interesting sign because beneath the charm, tigers are fierce and like to be dominant.

Money comes and goes for tigers this year. They need to take a conservative approach to relationships and avoid arguments. The best business success appears to be in out-of-town work. Potential health concerns for tigers in 2000 include ulcers and surgery. Tigers born in 1950 will see things start up with difficulty, then become easy, with business and income matters finishing the year well.

RABBIT:1927,1939,1952,1963, 1975,1987,1999

This is the most moody of all signs. Rabbits can change their minds almost as quickly as dragons. They are frank and honest, and will speak their minds without hesitation. They are loving people, but a typical rabbit is terribly exacting and can blow a minor problem out of proportion. They have excellent judgment on beauty. They make good fashion designers and would do very well in any field concerning music.

Rabbits will have a stable year financially, but things may be difficult at work unless they surround themselves with highly trusted people. Rabbits are prone to illness in 2000. Also it looks like a year full of romance, especially for rabbits born in 1975.
