My Music History

I have been involved in music ever since I can remember. My family was very musical and I was blessed to have so much talent surrounding me growing up. I will never regret becoming a music teacher. I love it too much.

My very first trumpet class, 6th grade. Oh my. I bet that sounded good.

My very first show choir, 6th grade. Everyone wore a cumberbun. We were really good for a beginning choir. It's funny to see the people in this picture. I have no idea where they all are now.

8th grade band. Look at that embochure. Yuck!

And we can never forget high school marching band. The good old times. =) I went to Field Kindley High School, Coffeyville, KS. There was an average of about 80 in out marching band. It was hard work and I had fun doing it, but I don't think I'll ever want to do that again.

Here is my friend Brook and I at Masonic Band camp, Summer 1996. We became really good friends there. We still talk to each other through email. She just graduated from KU with a music education degree. She is such a sweet person.

Here is my high school band director, Marilyn O'shields. She was also plays the trumpet. She taught me a lot and was a great supporter.

This is my high school choir director, Mark Gard. We still talk all the time. He has come to Wichita for several performances I've been in. I hope I can be like him when I'm a teacher. I want to be there for my students, past and present. He is one of my greatest role models.

Here I am at District Honors Choir, 1994.

This is my high school select choir, SoundWave 1995-1996, my junior year.

Sondwave 1996-1997, my senior year.

Here is the senior group at our Christmas concert, 1996.

TIME WARP!!

This is Dr. Taylor, my college band director. I can't even begin to tell you how much this man has taught me. He has changed my life and taught me things about music that I never dreamed possible. He has complete faith in my musical abilities. I will never forget what he has meant to me.

Here is the Friends University Jazz Ensemble I, 2000. We're playing outside the Davis building in this picture. This was such a great group to play in. I'll miss being able to play with such talented musicians.

Here is Warren, me, Brian and Rob. We were the jazz trumpet players Spring of 2001. It was fun playing with them, but I missed having girls around. They liked to pick on me.

Here is the Singing Quakers, the top select choir at Friends University. There are 100+ members in this choir. I was in this group for 3 years. We traveled several places, the biggest being New Zealand and Australia. There are some fabulous singers in this group. I'm lucky I got to be in it.

Here is Andy and I at my senior recital. All Music Education majors are required to give a recital before they graduate. Andy video recorded it for me. It was awesome having him there with me. I would have to say I was at the top of musical ability when I did this. It was a great feeling. I just hope that teaching will give me the same joy.
