PRECISION MODELLED GYPSY CARAVANS AND CARTS

CONSTRUCTED BY RAY AMPHLETT

A collection of model caravans and carts constructed to a high standard, showing both the interior and exterior features in fine detail.  The construction methods and decorative paintwork, all mirror those of the original full-size vehicles.  The interiors are detailed and contain many matching and appropriate artifacts.

This unique collection being the work of one man guarantees that the quality of workmanship and authenticity of detail remains without change throughout the whole collection.  Constructed using the popular one- eighth scale, gives each model an overall length of about 18 inches (46cm) and indicates that the full size vehicle is eight times the size of the model.  This scale also gives an opportunity to show the finer details and at the same time produces a finished article of pleasing size and proportion.

R ay Amphlett is an experienced and competent model maker, with many years of interest and devotion to the Gypsy tradition.  This devotion is reflected in his collection, which he now feels is complete and ready for a 'permanent home'.  Ray's model making has been his hobby and not his occupation, thus this collection represents a unique and valuable reference credential and an opportunity to acquire a lasting detailed record of the Gypsy history and tradition of the British Isles.

These intricate and ornate 'horse drawn' vehicles are amongst the most time consuming models to make.  There is also considerable time to be added to cover the research and allied work prior to starting on the formal construction.  Whilst the actual hours spent in making these models have not been meticulously recorded, most model makers would put the total time taken in the hundreds of hours per vehicle.
