In August I took a road trip to the West Coast. Here are some pictures of my trip.

While driving through South Dakota we saw fields of sunflowers. They seemed endless.

We set up camp for the night a few miles away from Mount Rushmore and then headed there first thing in the morning.

We did some illegal hiking on the mountain rocks, which were a little tricky. Here I am squeezing through some rocks!

We saw some mountain goats on the side of the road.

Back in the car, Kate and Tony rested up for their turns behind the wheel.

After another day and a half of driving, we stopped for a picnic in Coeur d'Alene.

We also stopped at Multnoma Falls and hiked all the way up to the top.

We did some hiking off the main trial and found this great view of the Gorge.

Later that evening, we finally made it to Portland where a friend of mine lives. She took us to see the Oregon coast.

We also checked out some Japanese Gardens.

After spending a couple days in Portland we headed down to California to see the Redwoods. Before dark we decided to set up camp for the night on the ocean. Falling alseep and waking up to the sound of crashing waves--it doesn't get much better than that.

Early the next morning we took a hike in the Redwood National Forest. You have to see these trees in order to believe their size.

That's me down there, staring up at the trees.

We did a little hiking off the path (again) and found this neat spot.

Then we headed back up for a brief visit to Seattle. Afterward we went to Mt. Rainier. We did a 7-mile hike, which included a very high, long suspension bridge, to a glacier.

That's the glacier behind us and Mt. Rainier in the background.

On the way back down we took a rest on a log bridge. We couldn't rest too long, though, because we had to get back down before the sun set.

After that we headed home...
