Kerry Morgans History

Sharon Harper entered the Morgan world in 1961 when she conned her parents into buying the Morgan filly Big Bend Lady's Pal. She bred Morgans under their "Cedarcrest" prefix for several years before the Kerry breeding program was established with the purchase of foundation mare Big Bend June Morn. Daughter Shannon, poor girl, was born into the Morgan world and, since her late teens, has been a full partner in the operation of Kerry Morgans beyond her ownership of her own mare and the mare's offspring.

The farm's program has been based on the mare lines of the foundation mares Big Bend June Morn (Windcrest Play Boy x Velvet R.M.), Highover Coralyn (Donlyn of Windcrest x Cornie), and Fantasy's Melodee(Windcrest Play Boy x Shaker's Shillelah) with a series of stallions brought in as needed for each succeeding generation. The first of these stallions was:

Applevale Replica

Pecos x Junefield

The in hand and park champion Applevale Replica was purchased from his breeder, Voorhis Farm, in partnership with Sharon's parents in 1967 and was used first for the Morgans Sharon bred for their "Cedarcrest" and then for the newly established Kerry Morgans (from 1972 thru 1982).

He was followed by:

Rockridge Manor Born

Donlyn of Windcrest x Stone Field Sue

An in hand, park, and English pleasure champion who also rode western pleasure, drove and was a great pleasure and competitive trail horse, Manor Born was used from 1976 thru 1981.

Next in line was:

JJ's Monarch

Applevale Boy King x Springbrook Anne

Used at Kerry from 1982 thru 1987. "JJ" was a champion in hand and/or in park harness at every regional Morgan show east of the Mississippi and was the sire of World Champions Touchstone Morocco and MVM Magic Melody.

In 1985 we purchased:

Chantwood Charterson

Elm Hill Charter Oak x Equinox Fair Ann

Who won many championships in hand, park saddle, park harness, English pleasure, and pleasure driving and was the sire of the great many times World Champion Batton's Flashdance as well as many other national and regional champions. His last foals at Kerry arrived in 1992.

Tara's Hallmark

Empyrean Apollo x Bar-T Regina

In 1988 Mrs. Pugh of Tara Farm consented to lease us her Grand National Champion Western Pleasure Stallion Tara's Hallmark for 2 years. While here he sired World Champion Batton's Montego Bay (bred by Kerry and sold in utero)as well as 4 others with the Kerry prefix.

Serendipity Aries B

Applevale Cadence x Porvenir B Bonnet

Then, in 1990, the great Serendipity Aries B (1974-1997) came to Kerry Morgans on lease. This sire of World, Grand National, and Regional champions was the winner of over 50 championships in his own right and sired 125 registered Morgan foals in his lifetime.
