Magaly M. Lemos
by her students

Magaly was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In 1964, she married Orlando a nuclear physicist. This talented wife and mother of three children: Mrs. Bunt, Gisele, nurse (RN), living in Los Angeles, California; Michel, psychologist and Max, architect and town planning. She keeps a charming home, is a wonderful cook an a marvellous painter. In 1975, shortly after moving to Ilha do Governador (Governor’s island), a pleasant quarter in the Guanabara Bay in Rio de Janeiro, she began painting with Ms. Erminia Garcia as her teacher. She also studied under other famous artists, such as Ms. Ignez Leig, president of Brazilian Association of China Painters (ABRAP), Mrs. Laise Cavadas and Mrs. Dirce Brosco. In 1970, the family moved with Orlando to Paris, France. There Magaly discovered her artistic talent. She worked with wood, canvas, textile and fired glass. Ly (as she signs her works) has taught china and glass painting after 1981 and she is affiliated to ABRAP. From 1983 to 1987, she lived in Vienna, Austria. There, in the beautiful gardens of the Donau Park, she was impressed by the collection of roses, roses are just of one Ly’s specialities, and each piece she paints is one-of-a-kind. She paint many other subjects with a natural gift for design and detail. When you walk through her door (former home) the wonderful odor that envelopes you is the perfume of a painter, that sweet smell of oils and paints that inspire you almost as much as looking through the several rooms at all the beautiful paintings on various surfaces (china, glass, wood, cloth and canvas), and many other interesting things that she collects, including music boxes and pictures of grandson Caelan and grand-daughter Lívia.
