TEAPOT COMPOSITIONS-PAINTINGS

A DESCRIPTION OF HIS
SEMIABSTRACT PAINTING TECHNIQUE

My name is Keith Fox and I wish to know who is afraid of a teapot.

By cropping off the top of a teapot within the tradtional still-life painting, I have filled the canvas panels with folds of the tablecloth on which the teapot sits in order to show how the teapot affects the tablecloth's arrangement of folds on the flat surface of the tabletop. Also, because the top of the still-life object--the teapot--has been removed from the composing or arranging of these pictures, I hope that the viewer will enjoy having his or her focus of conscious attention shifted to something that might be important happening outside his or her usual focus when contemplating a still life, namely, the folds of the cloth.

Finally, I hope that the resulting semiabstract aesthetic structure underlying this collection of twenty different visual images translated from an actual teapot and tablecloth will make these still lifes unstill to the delight of people whose appreciation of representations of inanimate objects, such as teapots, in paintings or photography, is partial toward that of the imaginative still life.
