This is one of my favorite painters in all of DC. Her work is absolutely genial in nature. It's brooding, colorful, imaginative, descriptive, sensual and even macabre at times. Her avian imagery keeps coming back and gives her talented palette an unusal iconic flavor. The new caustic work recently shown at Art-O-Matic was a positive departure from her paintings.
Not only the co-owner of eklektikos gallery, Sprouse is also one of the best painters in the city. He was one of the favorites for the KOAN readership as well. His latest work is the strongest, as he sems to be moving towards expression via painting images which he has first digitized and manipulated and then painted on canvas. My choice for the Best Painting Show of 1999.
A very young (25) and very talented artist. He works with found objects such as screws, wire, spoons, etc. to deliver very surrealistic and gestural figures. Deeply rooted in the study of the human form, Bradley is well on his way to lead the new edge and the new wave of Washington artists. He is talented and his gift is just beginning. Possibly the best buy in all of the DC gallery scene. My choice for the best new artist of 1999. Represented by Fraser Gallery.

I've only seen her astounding work twice, but this Russian painter is easily the best of the new realists and a breath of fresh air to the DC art scene. She is currently an instructor at the Russian Academy of Visual Arts in Alexandria.
The premier muralist in Washington. His work is all over the city and suburbs. Also a terrific artist and personality. Peck's subtle influences and visibility are strong assets and he is a true emerging star.

This energetic woman is one of the leaders of the DC art scene and her enthusiasm and drive are equally matched by a terrific eye for the camera and for creativity. She runs the "$100 Art Sales" events throughout the city, is part of the faculty at the Corcoran School of Art and also manages several art galleries and spaces in the city!! Colorful and vibrant new and emerging art from this Maryland artist, who also runs the Little City Art Studio which offers art classes. Her work is deeply influenced by various themes, ranging from Picasso to Celtic animal work, but made elegantly unique by vibrant use of colors. She is also a member of the Maryland State Arts Council's Artists in Education program, and is a board member of The Arts Council of Montgomery County.
Powerful, dark and visibly arousing is how best I can describe the sensual photography of this Gothic lady. Her work is uniquely her own, although Mapplethorpian influences and Ellisonian touches (Harlan not Ralph) do appear in her work. Absolutely the best nude photographer in Washington.
This talented DC artist gets my vote as "one to watch" emerging Washington, DC artist. Honest work which is loaded with talent, insight and painterly ability. This is the best time in his career to get this work, as he is quite affordable. Daniels is loaded with so much talent that he is sure to become a superstar in the near future.
