About These Compositions

Yup, the same tired old page. I've done rather more than this, but I'm waiting to find some way to do multitrack audio stuff with Linux before I can put any of my new compositions together. I'm into playing all the parts, since I'm the only musician I know. The software exists now, but I can't get it to work very well because of the vagaries of my particular soundcard. It didn't work very well from Windows either, but it's simply impossible from Linux. Buying a new soundcard is very, very low on my list of priorities, so I offer up the same tired old stuff that's been here since I started this pointless little web site.

These works were composed using a Roland SC-33.  They should sound fine on any Sound Canvas variant, or any other GS synth.  They should also sound fine on any GM synth, but may require a little tweaking to get rid of any sound effects that get replaced with really raunchy-sounding GM equivalents.  (Fret noise instead of string slap, for instance.)

Hear me play live at mp3.com! (No longer available here due to bandwidth limitations.)

For those with no MIDI capability, or poor quality MIDI gear, who are curious about what these works sound like, I've put up Real Audio versions.

"An Arpeggio and a Dream"

This started as an arpeggio on my guitar and took me for a musical ride.  Bits of it annoy me, but I've never gotten around to re-writing them. I likely never will, but who knows?

"I Dream of You"

This started as an attempt to sequence a drum pattern that I had stuck in my head.  It was one accident after another, but the end result was a pleasant surprise. Eventually I hope to do a live version of this, using real instruments.

"Autumn Rain"

This work started life as a tune I used to whistle while playing the guitar.  I sequenced bits of it and left it that way for a long time, and then on a boring, bleak autumn day I finished it.

"Dungeon Dirge in A minor"

Wow! Something new after all these years! Inspired by Eriadain, a project to re-make the late Origin Systems' Ultima IX into the game it should have been, I've composed this latest piece. Please note that this will not sound its best unless your MIDI device has an orchestral drum kit.
