March 14, 2001

Ooh, baby, I'm on a roll now! Two entries in a row! Stop me before I write again!

It's just that I forgot to mention something yesterday that's got me very, very excited. Since last week I've been dancing like a demented school-girl, wishing the year away.

Why, you ask? Because I found out that my dear friend Linda is visiting L.A. in Summer 2002. WooHoo! We've chatted muchly about her visit over the last week or so, and we're both too excited for words. This will be her first trip to the States, so naturally she's a little scared about the whole idea, but we've already decided that she'll be stay with me for most of her vacation. I should have a futon by then (been wanting to get one for a long time), so she'll have a nice place to sleep without paying the exorbitant motel prices. And we can sit up all night chatting, too, just like a slumber party.

I'll most likely be taking her to Disneyland, and at one point during her visit she'll be going to San Diego to visit another friend for a couple of days, in addition to the lunch she already has planned with another friend of hers that lives in L.A., so her days will be pretty full. Of course, now I'm trying to think of all sorts of places to take her, and I'm realizing that I can't choose just a few.

I think lunch on the Disney lot is something we should do, and maybe a taping of a sitcom (I still got connections). Then there's the Getty Museum, which she's expressed an interest in, and the Huntington Library and Gardens, which are absolutely gorgeous, and of course we have to walk down Hollywood Blvd., because visiting L.A. just isn't complete without that.

I've never played tour guide before, so this will be a new experience, but I know that we're going to have a blast, because over the last two years I've seen what a sweet, warm and fun person Linda is.

Some people might caution me against getting too hopeful, because, after all, Linda and I have only gottten to know each other over e-mail and IM, which could be deceptive. We've never had a face to face meeting, and she doesn't even know what my voice sounds like. (I've heard her voice when we've tried to voice chat, but I don't have the right sound card for that.)

If so, I'll just refer them to the entry about my Vegas trip, wherein I recount meeting a bunch of people that I didn't know nearly as well as I know Linda, and I still had an incredible time.

However, I don't anticipate drinking like I did in Vegas. I doubt I'm going to need alcohol to break the ice.

Is it 2002 yet?

If anyone's curious, my left eye still feels a little weird, thanks to the kitty stomping. It doesn't hurt, exactly, and I can see out of it fine, but it does feel drier and puffier than usual.

A friend of mine says that I'm probably just allergic, but I think he has an ulterior motive. He's highly allergic to cats and I think he thinks he can persuade me to get rid of the boys, so that he and I can then share an apartment. (No, nothing's happening between us, we're just good friends.)

If that's the case, then he seriously underestimates the love I have for my boys, especially Noel, and that whoever I room with has got to, at the very least, get along with cats.

Some people just don't get it.

Besides, I think the most unallergic person in the world would still have a bruised eye if a cat stepped on it. Don't you?

TODAY'S TAURUS HOROSCOPE
(from AstroCenter)

Reaching your financial goals has been wonderful, CAROL, but today you might find yourself confronting the downside: paperwork! Bills may need to be paid, contracts or agreements signed, bank deposits made. Once you sort your way through that, however, you probably will decide to get out and go shopping, as a lot of short trips in your community are indicated. Books might be at the top of your list.
