Welcome to a typical meeting!

The following is an overview of what to expect at our meetings here at Dorval City Toastmasters.

As you enter the hall, you will be warmly greeted by the Sergeant-at-Arms, and invited to sign our guest book.
At 19:30, the Sergeant-at-Arms opens our meeting; welcoming everyone, and introducing the Chairman.
After introducing the Head Table participants and welcoming our guests, the Chairman begins the Business Session. This is where we learn how to sharpen up on parliamentary procedure (Robert's rules of order) and other skills required to conduct a formal meeting.

Following the Business Session is the Educational portion of the meeting, led by the Toastmaster of the evening. It consists of three parts:

  1. - Table Topics : Speaking off the cuff for 1 -2 minutes.
  2. - Prepared Speeches : 5 - 7 minutes each
  3. - Evaluations of the meeting and of the prepared speeches

Throughout the evening you will also hear from Toastmasters who will give us a Moment of Reflection - a Toast (of course) - a Moment of Humour - an explanation of the timing procedures - and a report on members' grammar and diction.
And, as if that isn't enough, you are invited to join us at the break for refreshments and pleasant conversation. All in all, the two hours go by pretty quickly.

If your goal is to learn the art of public speaking, active listening and critical thinking, then you are in the right place. We all began the same way, however over time we have developed into better public speakers, and you can do the same!

Hope to see you there!
Joe Haberl, ATM-S, CL, President 2004/2005
