Deco for sale - a garage  New  iona05981.jpg (29584 bytes)   Photo © 1999

Offered for sale on the commercial property market is a former commercial garage which has some rather heavy art deco touches.

Once the Iona Garage, owned by the Cahill family who were pioneers in Irish aviation, this Dublin building seemingly dates from c1930 and it was used for vehicle maintenance, a building across the road was used for car sales. In the crime free Ireland of the early 1960's the Iona garage night watchman was murdered, - for an insignificant sum of money, - that crime remains unsolved. August 2001, building remains closed, reports suggest it may become a cafe. June 2002: Remains vacant, a recent temporary tenant was an Irish member of parliament, seeking re-election, who used it as his election headquarters. He did not get in!
