Worthing -

Dirty buses on streets filled with pigeon poop,
Clean clear skies where seagulls swoop.
Bus shelters with seats so high,
Cause girls skirts to show tattoos on thigh so high.
Skinny tops and bikinis are worn,
Bare chested men, I think called Sean.
Kids in push chairs, covered from the sun,
Are dotted upon by over heated soon to be mums.

Calm sea without even a breeze,
Beach parasols grown up like trees.
Show off's in cars on the promenade they pass,
People choosing those tacky old postcards.
Waiting to get home, back to loved ones,
Wishing the bus would move out of the sun.

Buses pass sun bathers on the green,
People displaying parts that shouldn’t be seen.
The “Elegant lady” is now a rusty shell,
Stood alongside the stall with fish to sell.
Boating lake closed due to poison algae,
Never mind we will paddle out to sea.
Guest houses on the beach ; “room to let with view”,
But still they say, no vacancies for you!
That sums out a trip to sunny Worthing,
A day out while I should be working!

Please note - the Elegant Lady refered to in the poem is actually a working boat, just the name was used for the verse.

Betjeman As I sit I lit a candle Made a choice
A common thing
Everyday I look
we have spent Here alone
Hands of silk With so many On this bright Hardly realize
Lonely night Shouted and screamed since from I watch you
we met upon a distant day You are pretty
(that moment)
The day I met you To sit opposite (the train)
Where l been You changed my life flowers Email From here
