Dumaguete City, known to be a city with a  warm atmosphere and with an air of sophistication, is the capital of Negros Oriental. It has a land area of 3,551 heactares and was granted a charter under
R.A. 327 which was revised under R.A. 5797. 

Dumaguete City is situated at the southeastern part of Negros Oriental. It is mostly rolling country with wide low lands along the shoreline. It has 22 barangays and 8 poblaction barangays. It became a  first class city on July 1, 1982. 

It is bounded between Mindanao Sea on the East, the municipality of Sibulan on the North, the municipality of Bacong on the South and the municipality of Valencia on the West. Total population based on the 1990 survey was 80,262. This city also prides itself in having the  second largest port in Centrala Visayas or Region VII, second only to Cebu. It has 3 piers. It is located on one-third from the poblacion area. Philippine Air Lines serves Dumaguete City with daily flights to and from Manila, Cebu and Dipolog.
