WELCOME TO SANDRA'S 60'S COFFEEHOUSE

Coffeehouses have been a part of the culture for many years. The 50's were the beginning of the increase in popularity, and a time when the great poets of the beat generation gathered together to espouse their philosophies. Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac, Gregory Corso and William S. Burroughs were leaders in what became the true counter culture revolution of the 60's. Rod McKuen was one of the original "beatniks", writing and composing from San Francisco, since the late 50's,and continuing today. As the 50's became the 60's, the beatniks evolved into hippies, and by the 90's, people who express themselves in different or profound ways have come to be know as "alternative". But it was always about gathering together to share music, thoughts, and coffee with others. Politics come and go, but the basis for the coffeehouse remains. We all need a place to be with people we feel comfortable with, and if you share a little information, a little art, a little music or a little peace, with friends and strangers, the heart of the coffeehouse has been preserved. Here you will find links to poets, and some great 60's music, maybe even a little philosophy. So sit down, pour a nice cup of steaming coffee, and think back-back to the time of Woodstock, Dylan, The Beatles. Of peace signs, and making love-not war, a time when we were all just a little more innocent......

Music has always had the power to make us think and feel. 60's music ran the gamut from revolutionary thought to light, bubbly, fun music. There was also a lot of hope for the future. This is a mix of all of those.

POETS I HAVE KNOWN AND LOVED

Rod McKuen is a personal favorite, a poet of incredible emotion and tenderness. I grew up reading Rod's books, and feel I became a better person because of them. For an example of his beautiful poetry, here is a message from Rod If you enjoyed that, here's more

Another poet who greatly influenced my life is Merrit Malloy. Her words speak to all women in a beautiful and passionate voice. Although she didn't write until the 70's, through the magic of time travel, she, too is in my 60's coffeehouse.

While you listen to music, take a look at the Peter Max Gallery. Peter Max's psychedelic art must be on the walls of the perfect coffeehouse.

The Master of Pop Art, Andy Warhol, was another huge influence in the 60's. Enjoy the view..

One more favorite artist to ponder upon while you finish your coffee. PICASSO, although not known as an artist of the 60's, did many beautiful works which were already in poster form, by the 1960's. I snagged a few for my coffeehouse collection.

Thank you for visiting my coffeehouse. I hope you had some pleasant memories while you were here. Come back soon, for more art, poetry and music. Peace.
