Please look carefully at the red circles on the stone arch of one of the  entrances to the castle of Himara.  This was built during the Byzantine era,  based on Albanian studies. The arch has two double-headed eagles wearing the  royal crown on their heads.  Interestingly, this carving shows that  Himarians used the doubleheaded eagle on their flag many centuries ago.

Ancient Coin This coin was found in our region and it has written on it the word  "HIMERA". It was used in the past centuries as a Mediterranean coin. On it  one can view clearly a branch of an olive tree and a few olives falling down  showing the time of harvest. We think that this coin was used in the Himara  region based on the history that Himara had used its own coins. However,  more evidence and historical studies are needed to prove this fact. We hope  that more research is going to prove our assumption.
