There is quite a bit of biographical information out there- if you just know where to look. Since digging through all of the info. on the web can be difficult, I have eliminated the hassle for you. Below are the best biographical links I have found to date. I have also included any other amusing links I think would be of interest. If I come across any more, i will be sure to add them. If anyone knows of any other links that are not here, but should be, please, email me and let me know!! :)
- "Math's Hidden Woman": One of the best artices on Sophie I've had the pleasure of reading. (So good, in fact, that I went out and bought the book, "Fermat's Enigma.") This was off of the NOVA television program site. Includes a whole other list of links about the proof of Fermat's Last Theorem that occurred in 1994 by a professor named Andrew Wiles... but we'll discuss that later...
- A Very Through Biography That I wrote this past semester. Do not be fooled by the narrative format and illustrations. This is 100% historically accurate right down to the dates...
- Sophie Germain- from Agnes Scott College: The Good old Agnes Scott site again. It seems that you can always rely on this site for good bios.
- The MacTutor bio on Sophie Germain: Also contains links to other mathematicians important to Sophie's career.
- Sophie Germain at MathNews.com. This is a good article. It was written as a part of a regular column for MathNews at the University of Waterloo. You can visit MathNews at http://www.mathnews.uwaterloo.ca/BestOf/index.html
- Sophie Germain: Revolutionary Mathematician. Another site I recently found. Some "new" information, including some background on Sophie's family. Breif, but nevertheless, is still rather informative reading.
- Hotel Sophie Germain: Paris, France (Not a bio., but...) I am serious... this was way too amusing. How many other mathematicians have a hotel named after them? (I guess Sophie finally gained her recognition afterall!) Make a reservation for the next time you are in Paris!
- SG on "Engines of Our Ingenuity" A breif, basic bio. that aired on an original radio series created by Dr. John H. Lienhard. "Engines" is a series that celebrates "the story of how our culture is formed by human creativity." Originally aired on a radio station in Houston, the transcripts for every episode are now available online to the general public at the "Engines of Our Ingenuity" homepage.
- From the authors of "Mathematical Expeditions" ...comes a great online biography of Sophie Germain's contributions to Number Theory. So well written, in fact, that it may persuade you to buy the book .

- "The Moldy Oldies Collection" If you are in the mood to ditch the hardcore research and look at something cute, check out this student designed page on ancient mathematicians. As a school project, fourth graders drew pictures and wrote small biographies of their favorite mathematicians. (Germain, Gauss and Fermat are featured here along with other WOMEN such as Hypatia, Kovalevskaya and Lovelace.)
