Life Is Beautiful

What an awe-inspiring movie! A must-see for anyone who dreams of true love.
Life is Beautiful really opened my eyes...
Guido's indefatigable love for his Principessa and his son,
Dora's conviction that a concentration camp would be better than life without her husband and son,
and Joseph's loving memory of his father's sacrifice
moved me beyond words.

If Siskel were still alive, I'm sure he and Ebert
would give this movie a "two-thumbs up!"

Some of my other favorite movies include:

  • A Roman Holiday
  • A Room With A View
  • An Affair to Remember
  • Anne of Green Gables/Anne of Avonlea
(You just gotta love Megan Follows)
  • Au Revoir Les Enfants
  • Ben Hur
    (starring Charlton Heston)
  • Big
    ("Shimmy, shimmy, cocoa-pop...")
  • Breakfast At Tiffany's
  • Clueless
  • Emma
  • Europa, Europa
  • Farewell My Concubine
    (Gong Li is so talented!)
  • Fong Sai Yuk
    (Jet Li is a genius!)

  • Glory
("Robert" is the kind of officer I'd like to be!)
  • Good Morning Vietnam
("Give me some skin!" I'll never get tired of this movie!)
  • Happy Gilmore
(Adam Sandler is so hilarious. SNL is not the same w/o him.)
  • Heidi
  • Hello Dolly
(Barbara Streisand was about 6 months pregnant when they
filmed this musical, where she sings and dances about. Wow.)
  • Jeon Tae Il
(A moving and powerful biography of a Korean youth whose efforts
helped bring about badly needed changes in Korea's labor policies. A must-see!)
  • Lady Jane
    ("The soul takes flight...")
  • Little Women
    (I liked the book better...)
  • Milo and Otis (so cute!)
  • My Fair Lady
  • Pretty Woman
("I almost peed in my pants!" --Julia Roberts (at the opera))
  • Pride and Prejudice
  • Schindler's List
  • Sense and Sensibility
  • Seo Pyun Jae
(So indescribably deep and poignant. If you
like deep, intense, weighty movies, this is it.)
  • Shakespeare in Love
    (Excellently witty!)
  • Shaolin Soccer
(The most outlandish Asian comedy I've come across thus far.)

  • Sleepless in Seattle
(Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. Need I say more?)
  • South Pacific
("I'm gonna wash that man right out of my hair...")
  • Spaceballs
(Never fails to crack me up! I actually like this better than Star Wars. *gasp*
Was that blasphemous? I hope my friends who are die hard Star Wars fans won't beat me up for this comment.)
  • The Joy Luck Club
(This movie does a great job of reproducing the story
in Amy Tan's book. Funny how Asian moms are so alike, eh?)
  • The Killer
(Chow Yun Fat kicks up the dust!)
  • The Last Emperor
  • The Little Mermaid
(I like this version better than the original version
b/c it has a happy ending. I love happy endings.)
  • The Matchmaker
(I loved it when Janeane Garofolo had to judge the singing talent of the guys
trying to impress her at the pub. "On Raglan Road" is an awesome Irish folksong.)

("My heart wants to beat like the wings of the birds
that fly from the lake to the trees.")
  • The Ten Commandments
    (another one with Heston!)
