A Few Wise Words From

John Carl Roat

This is excerpt from a book Mr. John Carl Roat is writting for Randmon House. He has given me permission to post it on the familiy Webpage. He honored me by saying he thought of this page when he wrote this. Thank You, Sir!!

All my Team mates were not party tell you drop young guys. There were
plenty of family men, guys that that not only were good Operators, but
husbands, fathers, members of their church and community. To reach the
status of solid married guy for a Team Member was no easy task. You had
to find a woman of exceptional CHARACTER and mental strength, if she did
not have those two all important traits, she would be gone quick. I
don't mean that the guys were always smart enough to get rid of a weak
woman. I mean that a team wife was required to carry more then her
share of the load. Just like in training, many wives of were gone
before things even got tough. Guys were not only gone on deployment,
but when they got back from say six Months on some ship, there were Team
duties, and schools to attend.

Any woman that married a Team member, had better figure he would be gone
a minimum of six Months of every year. Not there at three o'clock in
the morning when the baby was sick; the taxes came due, the car broke
down, the grass needed cutting, the trash taken out, or it was just a
bad day and she needed a hug. Any woman that lasted as a Team wife, not
only loved her husband, but she had to be at least as strong a person as
the man she married.
