Hi, My husband was in 1962-1966. Our oldest son is a Cpl and will be going to Iwakuni, Japan, next Tuesday (January 2nd). He left a very good job to pursue a life long dream of becoming a Marine and went into boot camp much older than the norm....he was 28. He has been in a little over two years now and I'm very proud of him (not that you couldn't tell!). I have been blessed to have him home since December 2nd and will really miss him when he leaves next week. This is his first overseas duty station. Although we have heard many nice things about Iwakuni, to a mom it still seems so incredibly far away. But I'm so happy for him and he's excited about this next step in his Marine career. He worked for Toys for Tots the entire time he was home, which was a great experience. I belong to a Marine online group called Marine Moms Online and it's a wonderful, supportive group. From the halls of montezuma bro'z!! I served in the Corps from 1970 - 1976 with much pride and honor. I was a 7011 SATS Hawg Launch and Recovery Technician. Very rewarding and exciting work. Catching Aircraft that most kids sit and look at as models at th tender age of 17-23 still lives on in my heart to this day. My Best Friends in the whole wide world is Terry Kidwell and Mark Casas whom I fought wars with on and off duty if you know what I mean. Being a retired Medic With 26 years service, in Canadian Forces. I have had the pleasure of being on field training exercises with Marine unites on Reforger in Germany while stationed with 4 Combat Medical Support Unit (later called 4 Field Ambulance), 4 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group from Apr 1976 to Jul 1982. And again on different exercises in Camp Wainwright, Alberta, Canada when I was posted to the Lord Strathconas Horse ( armored corps) out of Calgary . Weinwright was our stomping gro nds. To bad I can't remember Marine unit designations or names of some of the individuals (some as you can imagine were very colorful) I came into contact with in those earlier days.I am sure there would be some interesting stories, especially about those of you on your first winter exercise in THE GREAT WHITE NORTH !
