"THE HURTING INSIDE

I once knew a young man only 17 years old
Who thought the noble and honorable deed
Was to stand up and be for his country bold
Never once thinking of his own personal needs.

Parris Island was the place of his learning
Vietnam being where he thought he should be
Combat Engineer was the title of his earning
Tears of strife are what he would next see.

Landing in a fire fight, not knowing what to do
He scrambled for cover as quick as he could
He said a prayer, for God was there too
And what was asked of him; he'd carry that too.

Never knowing exactly what that meant
To his fellow Brothers, his heart he did lend.
The letters he wrote and to home he sent
Never revealed the wounds that could not mend.

Thirty years later as I sit here with him
We talk of the torment that he holds within
Like taking a dare........a whimsical whim
He thought "just a war, no problem to win".

Now is the time for us all to really listen
Hear these words that our vets have to say
Help open their hearts and minds to hasten
A healing within -- of having a normal day.

Nightmares abound, echos of screaming
Best friend and brothers......no one is around
Tears from his face silently streaming
Shot in DaNang..........finally homebound.

Salute our Veterans, hold them in our hearts
Without these HEROES......a world torn apart...

A Mothers Prayer

Children are here to light up our lives
Shining inside, their souls full of life
With laughter, with joy, and love for us all
Keeping us up and cute as a doll.

I've prayed and I've prayed
Been down on my knees
Asking for what I could not see
Until I awakened to the sounds of my day

In it could be heard
All that I have asked
Now my dear Lord
I thank you for the task.

Dedicated to all those parents who wonder why they have been given life. Now you know why We are the keepers of His dearly begot. So the next time you"re down on your knees asking him to lighten your load,
watch your child while they sleep. Listen to their breath and hold it in deep For they are the angels for all that you ask.

LOOKED AT MY PICTURES TODAY

Dedicated to:
Dave....John....Lois.

Looked at my pictures today
Of loved ones so far away
I really have no cause for alarm
For God and His Angels keep
us from harm......

It doesn't matter the number of miles
Or if we use a computer to share our smiles
God opened the door between our hearts
Each of us knowing our friendship
shall never part......

These tears I shed are tears of joy
That empty space...no longer a void
For Dave...John...and Lois...have filled it
Looked at my pictures today.....among my
new friends, here I sit.....

BEHIND THE LAUGHTER

Young, full of life-
Happy and carefree
Twinkle in the eyes-ever smiling;
Hiding behind the laughter - is me.

  To give to others
So they are happy
For them, I do smile;
Cheerful for all to see.

  But laughter is the disguise
For the secret I keep.
The world knows not
Those eternal tears I weep.

  Sometimes I remember
Those that said they'd always care.
But I search for the true friend;
To find........there's no one there.

  I never asked for anything
I gave as much as I dared.
Everyone wants to be loved;
And special feelings shared.

  But as time goes on.......I accept,
This I will not receive.
Far too many have carelessly cast aside;
Something that was special to me.

  Somewhere in my heart
Lies a happy song waiting for it's turn.
But the tears drown it;
And the laughter that burns.

  Is reality - life a forever changing tune?
Or is it the laughter and tears.
The need for someone to care?
The answer I fear!!

MOTHER

My one and only true believer,
   when times looked good or bad.
I've tried my whole life to deceive her;
   yet she's triumphed my every fad.

  Life's changes and obscenities,
   once turned me for the worst.
Yet all of these insecurities;
   have not caused our ties to burst.

  Dearest Mother you are my life,
   through scared or lonely times
You've always been there at my side;
   as I've said in these few lines.

  GOD must be watching over me,
   from each and every angle.
To have given HIS sons' life to be;
   and to me-a Beautiful ANGEL!

Mr. Patience

You've been there forever, from first walk, to first drink.
Always teaching, and making me think.
One hell of a person, and one generous man;
Secretly you kept pace, and kept hold of my hand!

  You've outlasted through my fads and women, too.
Even though I could not always see you.
You've given me everything-to the suns' last rays;
Always trying to show me the path, the right way!

  You're a wonderful man, to which none can compare,
Even though I've filled your life with despair.
You were always there with me, someone to fall back to;
To My Dearest, Special Father, these 3 words,
I love You!
