Our Adventures in Anchorage, Alaska

On July 4, 1996 we arrived in Anchorage, Alaska as a family on a new adventure. There was Katie and her brother Allen and of course Pat and myself (Dirk, Sr.)
For the first couple months we lived out of our van till we could find a very nice place at 381 Pauline St. which was about 1/4 to 1/2 mile from the beginning of the base of the mountain range on the East side of Anchorage.
Here we settled in and the children were enrolled in the Anchorage School District at Muldoon Elementary on Cherry St., just less then 1/2 mile from the house. The view from there was so pretty in summer as well as winter.
The summers in Alaska seem as though they will never arrive, but when they do words can not begin to explain the beauty.
Summer is short though, about 14 weekends, but with the long hours of daylight in summer the growing season is very fast and the flowers and trees bring on the colors. Much too fast though summer is gone and winter sets in as the days get much shorter. During summer the daylight gets to a max of 20 hours yet during the winter it changes to a max of 20 hours of night. One may or may never adjust to these factors, and besides the cold is the only real adjustments one will have to make that are extreme.
Where else can you live in all the beauty and have abundant wild life all around, such as Eagles, Wolves, Bears, Moose not to forget all the fishing for Salmon and Halibut. During summer and winter it is not uncommon to have moose wander down the street or in your yard.

The following are some photos to and in Anchorage, Alaska. There were eight of us that made the trip, myself (Dirk Sr.), Pat (my wife), Katie & Allen our youngest children and Dee (our oldest daughter) and her three children, Larissa, Christopher and Preston.

This was our mode of travel during the trip from Tool, Texas on Cedar Creek Lake to Anchorage. We are stopped here just for a rest stop.

This is 1/2 the front of our house at Pauline St. in Anchorage with the mountains in the background. Even though we lived in Alaska we still took pride in Texas and flew the Texas flag proudly.

Here is a pic of a rainbow (which we saw many of) and at times even in multiples, a sunset from our livingroom window (each sunset & sunrise are so pretty) and flowers which these pics are only an example of their beauty.
