The NJROTC unit at Colleton County High School (SC) began under the leadership and guidance of LCDR Charles E. Armentrout, US Navy (RET), in July of 1993. Currently, there are 162 cadets and three instructors.

  Objectives
  The unit has main objectives, set by CNET for all NJROTC units to follow. These are:
  
  • To develop informed and responsible citizens
  • To strengthen character
  • To promote an understanding of the basic elements and requirements for national security
  • To help form habits of self-discipline, self-confidence, self-esteem, responsibility, accountability, and leadership
  • To develop respect for and an understanding of the need for constituted authority in a democratic society
  • To develop an interest in the Military Services as a possible career
  
  
  For cadets who actively participate in the NJROTC program, there are many benefits. Among other things, if they enlist in the military, they will enter with an advanced pay grade. They may be able to receive a Naval Academy Nomination, or a ROTC scholarship.
  
  The cadets also compete in numerous drill meets and competitions throughout the year, and participate in many community activities. We hold our own drill meet, the Pride of the Lowcountry Drill Meet, at our high school, and we also host a few orienteering meets each year.
