The Mustangs adapted our name from a description of General Robert E. Lee. Before the out-break of the Civil War Robert E. Lee was offerd a promotion and command of the Union Army. Lee replied that he would need more time, to see what his native Virginia would do. Shortly there after Virginia Broke from the Union and joined the Cofederate States. Lee kept his promise and declined his promotion and resigned his commission. Several days later Lee enlisted in the Virginia militia. because of his past at West point and as an Officer in the Army, Lee was quickly promoted to the rank of General and then in command of the Confederate forces. It was commented  by an observer that Lee had ascended the ranks like that of a wild Mustang. So In honor of one of the first, Officers and a gentileman we take our name.

The Mustangs Have a constitution!
On 1 February 2000 the Commandant of Cadets finally approved a constitution that gives the Mustangs the right to act as an organization on campus . It came exactly three years after the Mustangs were first chartered.   We have transformed from a secret underground organizaton to a fully accepted and authorized one, while keeping with the same values and traditions as the founders set fourth. what does this mean? 99.9% of all organizations, underground or authorized never last past 2 years. Let alone change its status from underground to chartered, well were past the two year mark and the future looks great.

At the top of this page are both Mustang ribbons. The red and black one has been retired to the current grey ribbon. the current ribbion`s specifications are that it be Storm Grey, with a silver "M" device centered over the name tag when worn alone, or by SOP from the MMI regulations manual when worn in cojunction with other ribbons. For those of you who wore the red and black ribbon can you see whats wrong with it. If you knew its specifications you know whats wrong with it. The error is purposely done becuase it has been retired.

this is the MMI chapel one of the oldest buildings on campus, which was used during the Civil War as a Hospital by both the Confederate and Union soldiers. To this day the chapel is used regularly, and is the center piece of the campus.
